New and looking at car tomorrow

Featured Replies

Hi folks, I am looking at an octavia 2006 1.9 tdi (pd) with 160k miles tomorrow. Would the mileage concern you? I know the PD engines are highly regarded in the Passat I was originally looking at but never really had anything to do with skoda before. We just need a safe family car really.

Thanks

at those miles id want some service history just for reassurance but a mate of mine bought one with well over 100k and it drives like new

check its had the cam belt changed too

its really all down to what abuse its had but if it drives well and its the right price youll be happy enough

Thanks, forgot to say seller says he has full service history and some receipts etc. I was concerned about the mileage but see these PD engines with high miles many with more than 160k on passat. I hate buying cars, so stressful

i was in a taxi the other night and it was over 300k, says he has others with 400k+ and all on original engines

servicing is key

wear and tear items dont count but thats all hes really had go wrong

I bought my old passat 1.9 TDI 130 ps with 150k from BCA auction and it was best car I have had. Had it 4 years put a further 80 miles on it and still got over 55 mpg.

Only got rid of it in end on 235k on clock as thought brake servo was on way out and was going to cost at least 500 quid. Have to look out for EGR concerns. Service it yourself every 10k with correct vw Oil that's key and it will cost you about 70 quid each time.

Got scout 2.0l TDI now and wish I had kept old passat.

You'd have been better off just getting the bus or a taxi rather than buying a car for those miles per year. :D

I had an Audi a4 avant sport with the 1.9 TDI engine. It had 118k on the clock when I bought it and it drove like new. After 2 weeks of owning it I found out it had been clocked and had done more like 190k but still it was amazing I had it 2 years and did another 25k in it, the audi was the best car I've had.
