I love listening to the 'Detailing World' guys. This detailing is a bug, it's so easy to get hooked.

Having said that there is no substitute for washing, claying using a DA polisher , glazing waxing etc. I could probably have included another 3 or 4 stages too. The results are simply stunning.

There is also a minefield of companies looking to sell their wears. Like washing powder each product is faster, cleaner, lasts longer etc so once you are hooked  it's important to know where to get off.

I've tried it all with great enjoyment but as prices went through the roof I have reduced my cleaning to twice a year wash, clay, and two coats of Collinite 476, which I have found to be the best value for money and longest lasting wax. The first I call "winter prep" and is done around Sept. The second is the "Spring clean" and is done March/ April, the car always has a good coat of wax on it using this method. The claying is done with a clay mitt which is much quicker than using a clay bar.

In between it gets washed when it needs it, no fancy shampoo just anything I have to hand really and if I run out of car shampoo, Stardrops is a great standby as it is gentle and does not take of the wax.

I love Autoglym vinyl and rubber care and use it for all outside rubber/plastic, as a cockpit shine and even under the bonnet.

I turn a blind eye to swirl marks these days and have stopped 'chasing' them. The car always looks smart and suits me.
