Manifold Removal allen?

Featured Replies

Ok .. ive tried 20 allen sizes ... wtf is this :P

Is it even a allen head? Ive read the ibiza guide and it says 5mm .. thats to small ...

What does Skoda dealership say ??

Inlet manifold? Generally 5mm on a VAG. Is it rounded out? Is a 6mm too big?

I tried 5mm a lot, as thats what i read it was, must be full of crap and wont go in?

Also while im at it, the guide i read shows that i need to remove the engine top cover, why? it doesn't seem attached to that :P i would rather avoid ****e getting in the engine, not to mention its ****ing it down...

Are you sure it's not a Tor-x head on the bolt?

According to this page, they are M8 x 45 socket head bolts.  I'd expect that to require a 6mm Allen bit normally, but I guess you tried that amongst your '20 allen sizes'?

Edit: can you borrow the missus's 'compact mirror' to have a look?

ok i will have another fettle in the morning, just bought a new allen set.. maybe my old ones are worn, or my old eyes are reading wrong numbers though the rust :P

- do i need to remove the head cover and gasket seal?

No.

There will be 8 Allen key bolts, and will come out the top of the engine.I did it when I replaced my turbo, remove the boost pipes and egr valve to make things easier.

I dunno whats going on with it, ive given up after wasting hours with countless allens... 54mm go though as if nothing is there, 5mm slip off after light contact, 6mm dont go anywhere and are too big ...  all the bolts are like this, not as if one is rounded..

There is such thing as a 5.5mm Allen bit. I can't remember where I've come across a bolt that has that size, but I own a 5.5mm bit and have used it somewhere. But never taken an inlet manifold off a diseasal so it's pure speculation that it might fit what you've got.

Can someone please point me to a guide for taking off the inlet manifold to clean it? I've done the EGR that is off but tbf don't know what I'm looking for with the manifold!!!

I gave up :(

If it's on the ASZ engine it's really easy, takes about 15 minutes to remove.

Will check on Monday, a guide is a little difficult to make or i would do one. Granted it's more awkward if you have an egr valve and not an egr delete.

I'm pretty sure they are 5mm Allen key bolts, but again will check on Monday. Here's some pictures from a few days ago, might help show you the locations.

4 out of the 6 bolts are nice and easy with good access. Working from the egr valve side to the fuel pump side...

Bolt 1 - nice and easy

Bolt 2 - nice and easy

Bolt 3 - awkward, I use a ball head Allen key and lock a spanner in to crack it off. The oil feed pipe to the turbo gets in the way.

Bolt 4 - nice and easy

Bolt 5 - bracket for the oil feed pipe gets in the way so Allen key needed again

Bolt 6 - nice and easy.

I just refitted mine yesterday. I'm certain there 5mm. Remove the egr and the aluminium boost pipe to give you access. And as hutchysrs50 has said some will need the ball end plus a ring spanner to get leverage.

Lol! The engine top cover is the big plastic thing that just pushes on to make the engine look pretty.
Your talking about the cam cover.

As above, a small mirror is ideal for this job, you can extendable ones from motor factors for a few ££££.

I was referring to the guide i read showing removal of the head cover http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=394630

Whatever the reason.

Plastic cover that just pulls off obviously needs to be removed.

Rocker cover / cam cover doesn't need to be touched.

It really is an easy job, you'll be kicking yourself once you've done it how easy it is.

Yes rocker cover is what i meant :P

Cheers guys! All I need is am Allen key for it then? Is there only 6 bolts that need removing? Not too sure which aluminum boost pipe you're talking about Stevo. .. I'm a newb to this. Please be patient! Haha

See the picture I posted? The silver pipe to the left of the manifold has a pipe going to it, that needs to be removed.

Yeah all you need is an Allen key, but they can be tight so something to lock into the Allen key to get some leverage is needed. And make sure it's a ball head Allen key for the tricky ones.

Ohhh you mean what the EGR fits to?? If I'm wrong will go have a look in a moment, thanks a bunch for your help and advice!

Yeah, the pipe that goes to the egr valve.

My manifold has an egr delete on so just a straight pipe as pictured.

The jobs a whole lot more complicated if you have an egr valve fitted.

I'd remove the full thing before starting on the manifold, plenty of guides to remove the egr valve though.

Just to add that a mirror for me was essential, Every bolt rounded off .. so no wonder all 20 of my allen keys wouldn't fit :P In the end managed to hammer in a a torx head and got them off!!
