Octavia 3 vRS Rear View Camera

Featured Replies

Hey people,

My first post and I am wondering if anyone has retrofitted a reversing camera on their 2015 vRS sedan. I mean, a camera that will be a straight swap with the boot handle and without cutting further into the metal.

Also if anyone has the OEM part number of the camera that Skoda are installing from the factory, can you please share?

Thanks,

Lucki

There's a section on the thread titled simply clever with full details. The thread is about something different but then changed into the topic of reversing cameras.

I just used it to retrofit yesterday. No cutting required. Bought the camera and wiring harness from car systems in Poland. Links are on that thread.

Hi Daesimps,

Thanks for the response, much appreciated. And glad to hear you fitted yours with no metal cutting required. Did the camera come with the right connectors or did you have to splice the cable(s)?

I was looking at the simply clever thread and was put off by Trust2K's post re. the camera, and that's because the guy is brilliant and my cutting skills are no where his :-)

Can you please link me the camera that you purchased?

Thanks, Lucki

The reason he had to cut is the earlier ones had a smaller hole for the boot release button. Newer versions all have the same size hole and the handle just gets a bit smaller if you have the camera.

With regards to the wires it was right and wrong. The camera has two plugs on it; a video feed and a power feed. The loom also has two plugs; again video and power. The video connectors matched up and on the other end were pins to go in the connector on the unit in the glovebox so no issues there. The power was not so as the camera only requires positive and negative but the loom connector has positive, negative and reverse so the two would not mate together. I simply cut the connector off and ran the negative to the bolt securing the rear wiper to the boot and the positive to the purple/black wire that supplies 12v to the rear wiper.

You should be able to see the two different connectors in the attached pictures. The second is the connector on the camera and the other two show the loom with the additional yellow wire.

As for camera, I purchased the camera and loom that is linked to by trust2k (from car systems)

Awesome, thanks for the excellent write up and pictures Daesimps. Makes things much clearer now.

Now I have to dig in to my wallet and spend $$$ on the camera :-)
