Button of electric review mirrors is starting to decompose

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My electric review mirrors button is starting to decompose, not the button himself but the sheet that holds the information (L - Left, R- Right, etc...).

Anyone knows where can i find a replacement sheet? Or other kind of resolution for this problem.

The button works great but is starting to get ugly as you can see in the picture.

Is the plastic melting, or is it just a coating peeling off?

If that is the plastic bubbling up then you should investigate further before simply replacing the panel. I'd be concerned that you might have an electrical problem, likely arcing due to poor contact which is causing a lot of heat. I would have anticipated that the switch just turns a relay on/off for the high current draw item (heated mirrors), which would reduce the likelyhood of such an obvious symptom, but perhaps it switches the circuit directly!

Hi,

It´s the coating peeling off. The plastic remains intact.

Yes, mine is left hand drive.

Are you in a hot climate?

It looks to me as though a few hot summers are taking their toll on the plastic / adhesive...

Yeap, Portugal.

And yes, i believe the summer has something to do with the deterioration of the plastic.

That´s why i´m trying to get a new plastic if this is possible.

No one got any ideas?

And if the only solution is to substitute the button, anyone have a tutorial how to do this? (images, video).
