Shark Stage 1 with DSG on TSi VRS.

Featured Replies

I have booked the car in for a Shark stage 1 map on Friday however a bit of Internet searching seems to show some people having issues with the DSG box limiting the torque. It seems the DSG is electronically limited to 350nm where the Shark map gives 400nm.

Now I know the DSG can be remapped too but I don't want to. I don't want to lose the features that remapping removes.

So the question is, is anyone running a Shark stage 1 map on a TSi VRS with a DSG and is it working ok? Does the ECU map fool the DSG torque limit?

I have emailed Shark and their agent about this but haven't had a reply.

Thanks.

Interested in this one. Planning the same thing soon - same car!

Any help for MBR guys?

I'm on stage 2 apr, which claims 440Nm, for a while now with no issues.

i recently got a dsg tune, but not due to the torque.

the dq250 dsg box is designed to handle more than 350.

u got nothing to worry about with the stage 1.

Best off giving Shark a call mate. :)

Are you sure it doesn't just limit the torque in first gear or something to take strain off components.

What features do you loose on the map from DSG though?

What features will you lose on the DSG remap? I've not noticed anything missing since having mine done.

Ben at Shark also changed some of the gearing for me so in certain speeds I'm in a better/more realistic gear.

You lose kickdown and auto change up in manual mode. As we do a lot of mountain driving abroad, we tend to use the paddles to get engine breaking downhill and let the car sort itself out at the bottom. It's taken ages to get the missus to learn how to use this. If it changes now she has no hope. If only I could remap her...

I'm aware of the manual mode bit which I did have to get used to but I still have the kickdown function.

Probably best to speak to Shark directly as I know the DSG map can be massively tweaked as well so might be able to do you a custom map.

I don't really want to shell out another load of cash to do the DSG to be honest. £450 for the remap is enough I reckon.

Granted it's a lot more money but there's a lot more technology in all these newer cars, the price of the software reflects the R&D that Shark have put in to the remaps and the software needed in order for them to be one of the best mappers out there!

I'm running a 2011 tfsi VRS with DSG. I have the Shark stage one map (no other mods) and I haven't noticed any problems, other than having to be a bit more careful with the right boot when it's wet!

Flinty. Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks.

i certainly did not lose kickdown with the dsg performance tune.

infact the kickdown in sport mode is so brilliant now, i actually look forward to driving it in sport mode.

pre-dsg tune, i hated sport mode because it held the gears too long.

post-dsg tune and its bl00dy awesome.

this is what the dsg tune i got does:-

  • Upgraded shift program solves a lot of the factory driveability issues
  • Modified torque limiter & torque capacity upgrade 450 – 500nm
  • Modified D - Drive mode for better drivability (gear closely matched to engine load & vehicle speed)
  • The S - Sport program is "lowered" for better usability
  • Faster shift response
  • All new software is based on the newest VAG version
  • Clutch shudder is dramatically reduced
  • Longer life of gearbox & clutch packs, less clutch slip

So, an update. I went to Perfect Touch in Hoddesden for a Shark remap this morning. After an initial problem with the dyno the job was done. Before the car produced 211bhp and 234 lb/ft, after 252bhp and 283 lb/ft. Happy with that.

I would recommend Perfect Touch. The service was excellent and they greeted me warmly. I was fully informed what they were doing and I was given plenty of coffee.

They did a 10% discount for Briskoda members and didn't charge for the dyno runs so for £450 I was happy.

The car drives like it should now. The power is linear but is much more aggressive. The bum dyno can definitely feel it!
