Coilovers

Featured Replies

Hi all I'm after some coilover advice / reviews .... My vrs is in need of some new springs and front shocks have gone so I think it's coilover time what's best value for money ... I'd don't want cheap nasty pound shop stuff but can't afford the bilstine kit ..... I'm not wanting it to make it low as .. But Wanting something for handling without taking too much comfort out of it as its sometimes the family runner ..... Thinks ap or kW v1 ????

I run KWV1's on my Fabia and really rate them.

Much nicer ride than my missus' standard suspension on her Fiesta Zetec S TDCI. Her words!

AP's get good reviews on here for a slightly cheaper option.

I have H&R Twin Tubes at £600 mark - very impressive handling compared to others i have had over the years - little firmer than Weitecs/ST coilovers but bareable, even for me doing 500+ miles per week.

I use Ap's on mine - good result

A lot will depend on your budget.

Call Awesome gti and ask about AP's, they gave me a good deal.

Wouldn't bother with them. I've got AP's and they're no good for the roads, too many potholes and speed bumps. I'll be changing them when I get the chance.

Bilstein B14s i have and there not to bad quite stiff but not to bad

Joms all the way lol £180 you can't go wrong nice n low cheap and cheerful

I've got ap and can't fault them tbh you get what you pay for if you ask me I'd never buy cheap and cheerful suspension personally but I like to drive my car not just slam it

Cheers .... AP's are looking the best so far .... I'd rather make it go better than just slam it so its undriveable

Yeah for the money, £378, the AP kit is a very good option.

Has anyone gone from JOMs to APs? When I bought the fabia off hutchy it came with joms. For the price they aren't bad but they are fairly bouncy and get a little wearing on long journeys. Rough potholed roads are no fun at all. I'm really more concerned about comfort than absolute handling. The APs are around the £400 mark aren't they? How compliant are they compared to JOMs and stock springs and dampers?

Not got anything (on a Fabia) to compare too but I find my AP coilovers pretty comfy, and not overly harsh or crashy even over Sheffield roads.  Mine aren't slammed.

I have recently replaced top mounts and bearings recently though which has made a significant difference to comfort and noise.

Thanks Damian. Dunno how I missed the price in that post :)

What would you recommend between the ap kit and say the koni STR.T kit Part Number: 1120-4092. Given that comfort is my priority over drop/looks.

I'd usually say springs and shocks are always going to be a more comfortable option but the Koni STR.T kit is one of the firmer options on the market so set at the same height I'd personally go for the AP coilovers.

Thanks Damian
