Anyone in Teeside area got a Brake Caliper Rewind Tool I can borrow please

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I know this is a bit of a longshot but does anyone in the Teeside area have one of these I can borrow for an evening as Iv bought new rear discs and pads for my Mk1 VRS and didnt realise you need this tool to change them and they are £33 quid from halfords. Sorry if this seems cheeky but I thought I would chance my arm.

I bought the US pro tools one from eBay it's about £10.

Crack bleed nipple off and squeeze piston back in with a pair of grips?

That doesn't work with rear calipers I'm afraid. They are on a worm drive so needs pressure and twist to put them back.

With skill, mole grips and a pry bar it's possible though

He is doing the rears, he needs the tool as the piston is on a thread due to the handbrake.

Got a whole set of piston wind-back tools for £16 off ebay and they are very good.

Don't be tight  :p

I got mine from Machine mart for about 16quid.

Though anyone got tips o. How to remove the tool once caliper rewound, only thing I could do was prise it out??

eh? just unwind it the opposite way to which you were winding before

that's what I thought then it started rewinding the piston back out.

TIL. Thanks :)

ah i see, sorry, yeh you need to get the prongs out of the notches, or dis-attach the plate which you have put on the end of your tool from the tool, before you rewind. There is also the nut towards the winder end of the tool, put a spanner on it and unwind. Sorry if that is vauge

Yeh I removed the plate but it wasn't quite as simple as I had hoped. Least I hadn't missed anything obvious

I bought a Laser 1314 off Amazon that resembled this. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Right-Handed-Caliper-Piston-Rewind/dp/B005IXC90S

Get something like that and make sure it's a "right hand" one.

Have to say, for the all up price Halfords are charging, could buy a complete kit suitable for "everything", including left hand wind backs.
