Spare key fob - Do I have to go to a main dealer to get one?

Featured Replies

Apologies if this is a numpty question but........

When I bought my Mk1 Fabia VRS it only came with 1 key - the old lady I bought it from had lost the spare one somewhere over the years.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind a spare key fob just in case I lose mine and I see that there are uncut ones on flea bay and I have a few questions around that:

1. Has anyone bought one and if so where do you get the key cut to match my existing key and I am assuming that I need to go to a main dealer to get it coded to the car?

2. Am I better off just going to a main dealer as I understand that replacement key fobs coded to the car are around £120?

Thanks

Martin

May be worth a phone call for a price, think that he is active on a few forums:-

Great stuff, thanks for this. I will give them a call tomorrow

Try Timpson. And most decent locksmiths,as they have cottoned on to the fact that dealers overcharge, and they can do it for less and still make a decent profit.

Just a quick update on this. Auto solutions locksmiths in the link above want £100 for a fully coded replacement key fob vs a main dealer at £125.

I'm probably going to end up going to be main dealer as I've got to wait until the next time auto solutions are in the Chester / North Wales area before they can do it.

As per #4, do you need it to simply open car ( laser cut key for £15 at smaller branches ) , or  to run car - where i was told larger branches have this facility.
