Speaker upgrade

Featured Replies

Wanting to upgrade the original door speakers in my 2005 octavia elegance but what speakers fit and sound good including tweeters?

Are you going to run an external amp for them? If not then you will struggle to get much of an improvement, if any.

The speakers up front are 6.5" and tweets are 0.75". You need a component set.

Taking the speakers out means drilling out the rivvets holding the oem speakers in place. Re fitting will involve making a baffle or buying a plastic baffle (making one will be cheaper and better overall)

I remember the sound of my tweeters greatly improved by swapping the standard dirty cheap electrolytics cap used as high pass filter with some MKP parts. Somewhere I should have the size, but I'm not so sure.

Have you got any more info on the tweeters you used?

genoa used the same tweeters but changed the caps used as high pass filters.

I've just upgraded the fronts to rockford fosgate tweeters and speakers, the sound is much improved, and used the opportunity to sound proof the doors

Have you got a link for where you got them please

what is your budget?

will you amp them?

Swapped my front tweeters for Hertz items with crossovers. The OEM mid bass drivers are actually pretty good, but the tweeters are terrible.

The improvement is night and day and especially noticeable with a HU better than the OEM offerings.

Budget isn't really going to be anything too high just wanted to upgrade the originals. Plans will be to amp the full system eventually but not straight away from the start.

You will regret going this route. You will end up with inferior products and maybe hate the speakers until you amp them.

Id save up, decide on a budget for speakers and amp and buy them over time.

If you get speakers which will sound good off your headunit its likely you will kill them once you amp them.

To be honest that does make sense what you've said. It's been a few years since I've touched any ice, did it in the past with a big sub and amp and upgraded door speakers but this time I want to do it properly. Thought about a slimline sub but I don't know if they are any good and I don't really have much clue of what amp to go for either

slimline subs can work well. JL do one which is pretty good.

Amp wise, if you want a sub and front speakers then a 4 channel would be fine for a small set up
