Warning lights on dashboard

Featured Replies

post-112017-14269230155958_thumb.jpg Hi I hope you guys out there can shed some light on this I've got a 07 VRS petrol and I noticed these warning lights come on then they would go off by itself or if I restart the engine any help on this would be great thanks.

It's probably a failed abs ring if they go off and come back on after speed exceeds 20 or so. A VCDS scan will tell you and also which wheel it is. If it is the rear you will need a new bearing hub as the ring is integrated into the hub.

Do you know what sort of prices you would be looking at?

I bought a new hub 2 yrs ago for my 06 elegance thinking the bearing was gone but it was a duff tyre. I paid approx. £90 IIRC.

Its lying in the garage at the moment

My rear hub with integrated ring cost me £60 for an OEM part from eBay (down from £130 which is the TPS price) and my trusted indy fitted it for a well spent £20 given how foul the weather was at the time.

You need a scan though to tell which wheel it is. If you are local to me in Newport South Wales, am happy to do that for you.

Just done mine yesterday bearing was £23 and took 30minutes to change. tools needed after the wheels are off are size 18 and 14 spline bits star screw driver something to pull of the hib screw cap i use a claw hammer a torque wrench and a good long bar to unscrew the hub nut i used a 900mm 1/2inch breaker bar.

Was that a front or rear bearing and is that from the dealer

The prices vary massively - for pattern parts it can be as cheap as 20 quid. The dealer will be more like the TPS price plus a bit more probably.

That was a rear one and the part was bought off ebay the other side went 3 yrs ago and its never gave me any bother even it being a cheap ebay one.

Sounds to me that it is common for the rears to go

Yes it is a fairly common fault on an older car, but not too hard to sort thankfully.

If they go off below 30mph it'll be the hub ring magnet as said.

I got OEM hubs because they came with a 2yr warranty. Significantly dearer than ECP or other pattern parts.

One thing to look at if it's a rear wheel is the rear stone guard. They're aluminium and oxidise against the steel bolts eventually they break lose from the bolts and clang around since the hub goes through them too. It's a hub off job to change them but a piece of **** if you're taking the hub off anyway.

A bit like doing the water pump at the same time as the cam belt I'd do the guard if your changing the rear hub. I think they're only £20 form the dealer.
