Vandalism to cars

Featured Replies

Really scunnered off tonight, had to replace two tyres on car due to wee numpties thinking it was cool to stab a screwdriver or similar into my tyres overnight. No idea who did it or why, and unfortunately no dash cam or cctv to give me a clue either.

Scumbags.

Does a lot of this go on where others live? My son had similar to his car last year, and no one was ever tugged for it. Police advise to get discreet CCTV that is fitted and used within the laws so they can perhaps identify who's doing it.

We got lucky in some senses, at least we spotted the damage prior to driving the cars. There's been a mini spate of car thefts here just now, seems one trick they have is using a bit of fishing rod with a magnet on the end to fish through letterboxes and pick up keys, when they nick the car they seem to be taking them to a public car park before leaving them there to check if fitted with a tracker, if car not picked up within couple of days they simply go back and remove them.

What a world we live in.

It's nice and quiet where I am. AFAIK no cars have been vandalised. Everyone looks out for one another and gets on

Do you have steak? No sir, but you can have fracas.

Here we used to have quite a bit of dust cap steeling and someone once destroyed the lock on our garage trying to break in, but we have never had anything major apart from once there was a id from school that smashed a bottle at the end of our drive so we chased after him and caught his mate then he started to throw stones at our windows for about a week but the police got him at his house and it turned out that his dad was an old friend of my dad and gave him a thick ear, came round, apologized and gave my dad  a beer. :)  But it's quiet here now, wouldn't want to go past the bottom of our street though, that place is a proper s*** hole!

Had this outside one of my exe's a few years back did, 3 fairly new Michelins, was not happy, they did 2 tyres on the exe's car and about 40/50 cars overall covering 3 streets and that just the one's reported, local tyre depots had a good sales weekend.

Some years ago I was in Edinburgh at my then gf's flat and someone booted the front wing on my Fabia estate, I didn't go through insurance and just had it replaced at my own cost at around £200 including painting...

Sorry, rural village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Not normally much in the way of trouble to be fair, but the last month has seen a rise in car crime in our village and a few others relatively close by. It's just when this kind of thing happens it is so annoying. Calmed down now, getting advice from a friend who does CCTV systems so hopefully some kind of deterrent will prevent more trouble in future.

Conspiracy theory? :D

I am fairly lucky I have never had serious vandalism to my car.  I have recently incurred a 12" long keying to the NSR door, but it is not too bad, and I have a spare door in silver - I might just change them over as handily they picked a door which also has a couple of small parking dents and a broken door handle....

My old fiesta: Rocks rubbed over the wings to scratch the crap out of them; constant damage from footballs; 2 lads had a fight next to it and one tried to chuck a rock at the others head, unfortunately he missed and my fiesta got a nice scar on the bumper; some huge scratch on the front bonnet; mirrors kicked off several times and wheel centre cap stolen.

My focus: Just a wheel centre cap stolen - pretty good going!

My octavia - A very sharp deep dent in the door looks like it was caused by a screwdriver or other precision tool (no scratches around it), when I parked on a public road outside someones house next to a park. I'd guess it was some stupid resident who thinks he owns the free spots outside.

Hope the scumbags get caught but they'll only get a slap on the wrist.

That's what I thought here :(

Yes it is popular where i live, had present car 2 days came out to it wires hanging from the boot where they tried stealing rear number plate light.

Becase they could not do it put a big screwdriver x on boot. Over the years i must have had 5 side windows at least 8 wing mirrors scrapes and scratches latest full length of my roof.

Funny thing most car vandalisism in york is york road near police station usless lot they are.

I'm very lucky and live out in a little town where tbh this sort of thing is very rare.

I wouldn't say I could leave my door unlocked but it's not far off that.

I've had a stereo nicked, at New Years my son had someone damage the roof of his Polo by walking over it and more recently all four tyre valve dust caps have gone missing from the Superb - chrome Skoda ones.

Several years ago I saw someone trying to break into my GTi at 3am.  I guess we were both lucky he was fleet of foot and had heeded my warnings of his demise before I got there. Scallywag.

Gaz

Been lucky with where I live, everyone is quite considerate of each others cars, had a note on SWMBOS Micra when someone felt protective of a public space.

Kind of related to the family, back when Garland Motors was family owned they had all the cars vandalised on the forecourt, some kind of acid/corrosive substance poured on the bonnets which destroyed the paint.

Will try and find the pictures at some point as was horrendous.

Someone broke a side window on my previous car with an air gun after I had left it near an underground station for a few hours several years ago. Also had wing mirrors flipped to the front a couple of times, but that did them no harm. A careless idiot dented my current Yeti's door with his one about a year and a half ago. And a piece of concrete fell on the roof from someone's balcony a couple of months later, causing another dent. But I don't consider these two vandalism. So I make it there was one act of vandalism in 9 years. And I had another one of my previous cars keyed near a supermarket before that.

On the other hand, my dad experienced much more vandalism to his cars in the late 80's - early 90's (dust caps/windscreen wipers/even wheels stealing, etc., etc.), but later things got noticeably better.

I can't help wondering at the amount of vandalism people report on this forum TBH.

Don't get a lot, as locally it's legend that I have CCTV covering the front garden where car is parked overnight. We had some ball play recently ,where next door had her 14 plate Corset hit by a ball on the roof. I sent in a supporting letter to our tenancy officer ( in hope that next door had complained) ,and no more balls  in the air. The usual culprits are not around, one especially after I collared his dad and  asked if he'd like his car treated by yobs with a football as his kid was doing to mine. Point taken- yob ( at 16) ended up on dad's arm on way home.

When I  brought van home at work, I had a couple of tyres done with a screwdriver. When I still brought van home it stoped.

My citigo was graffiti on last month. Was not pleased. The kids "probably late teens or 20's" picked on the light coloured cars in my road.

Probably related to the bloody church that has youth nights. Can be very intimating outside when the big groups are walking past.
