"Speed" on Columbus Nav

Featured Replies

Hi.

Only have my new Elegance 6 days so still at the learning stage.

This is my first car with nav fitted, it's the Columbus unit.

Just wondering is there any way to show GPS speed? Cannot see anything in manual.

I've had mine over three years and believe I know pretty much everything about the Columbus and I sure there is no way to show speed (as perceived by GPS) like you can with a hand-held GPS unit. I have an old Garmin 60CS that would show speed which would be more accurate that car speedo on straight flat roads.

Thanks for reply.

Its probably not available because of the speed error in poor reception areas or twisty roads.

It`s probably to not mess up driver`s head with GPS speed and CANbus speed, which are different.

it would confuse drivers, with two built in systems displaying different info and could open up VW to legal cases in the event of speeding based on the GPS speed, given that GPS speed is not accurate either.

No factory fitted systems currently display the GPS speed that I am aware of for this reason alone.

You can on the Columbus get it to display the speed limit for the road you are on, but for that to be accurate you need the latest maps possible (currently V12). Even then that may not be completely accurate.

Yes I can understand. Stand alone systems would not have the same legal implications.
