Mirror link, smart link, smart gate, carplay

Featured Replies

Ok I've seen there is already a post on about mirror link, but it's as confusing as hell.

Simple q (not really Prob)

I have a Columbus in an Octavia mk3 elegance October 2013

Can I get CarPlay to work.

Yeah or neah

That is yet to be disclosed.

Best case scenario is that just a software upgrade is needed.

At this point in time, no. CarPlay or MirrorLink are not currently available on the 1st Generation MIB units currently fitted to the O3.

I see the system now shows with wifi, don't think I would have that.

Anyone know if there could be any physical add ins that could do this.

I've been trying to get tv in motion and a tv tuner to add on too but to no avail

I seemed to be getting conflicting info too, some say you'll be able to retrofit via software update, others say no,....guess we'll have to wait and see,...

Wifi is not needed for smartlink/CarPlay. That connects with usb.

True, but the newest generation of CarPlay works over Wi-Fi as well. I wonder which version Skoda is planning to implement.

I hope its not the newest version so that it might be possible to upgrade older units.

The MirrorLink 2nd MIB-unit has 6,5" 800x600 screen, to use the 1st generation unit with 5,8" 640x480 (or less, the resolution is so poor, I don't like to remember) screen makes no sense.

Hoping to get fw-upgrade to the main unit in the glove box and a new reasonable priced bigger screen.

Called customer services about another issue, but asked them to look into the possibilities of updating my Columbus to work with mirror link, they are going to phone me back

Let us know what the outcome is.

Do you know what firmware version your Columbus is on?

They called back to say that no my Columbus isn't going to compatible with mirror link etc, they say there may be a hardware add on or a refit radio but that has not yet been decided upon

Really?

- The New ŠKODA Superb offers four new infotainment

systems and delivers exemplary connectivity and internet access. Apart from the entry-level model, the infotainment systems can be conveniently connected to a smartphone via SmartLink (MirrorLink™/Apple CarPlay/Android Auto).

That's not exactly my reading on the forum there - it says that Smart Link is the combined name for Mirror Link, Car Play and Android Auto.

Smart link brings all three together. Its Skodas name for it

VAG have pulled out of support for mirrorlink as per my phone call with Skoda..

I am yet to find out if the bolero radio will get a firmware update to allow smart link or if it needs hardware.
