Anyone any idea how well (or not) the III is selling

Featured Replies

Ask the question, as my wife has had a number of calls from a couple of dealers trying to pursued her to P/X her late 2012 Monte for the new MKIII model. Cannot think I've known so much dealer contact re a new model.

No idea really.

But look at the TV and Print Advertising in the UK,  and What Car Car of the Year stuff,

Millions of advertising, and they surely need it to be a big seller.

In 2013 Skoda UK First Registered 66,000 Cars in the UK, and 32,000 of those were Mk2 Fabia.

2014 they managed to shift more MK3 Octavias as they launched and were available.

No more Roomsters just now until a new one comes out.

Rubbish sales it seems on Rapids & Rapid Spacebacks.

Not great on the Citigo.

They need the Fabia and the New Superb to sell.

Pity they got the pricing wrong, & they never went with a new name as i suggested, 'Maybia' or 'Labia'.

They have made their bed, and now need to run with what they Designed.

Crispier, Sportier, More Youthful, Connectivity.

Shame they dropped the previous pre launch terms, and promises, Squat / Emmotional / Sporty,  that was not very 'Simply Clever'.

Cannot think I've known so much dealer contact re a new model.

That's quite interesting. I have had more calls from the dealer I have used in the past about the new Fabia than I can remember. That's despite me telling him (twice) that I am not ready to change at present.

TBH I hardly see any MkIII Fabias down here, a few Rapids/ Rapid Spacebacks but sales must be quite slow. Hardly surprising given how much a 'budget' car costs now.

My Partner's Skoda dealer, is a locally well established Family run dealership in the Wiltshire countryside. Normally a lot of Silver surfer owners of the new model Spending their protective pensions. However, I've noticed nothing like the normal run on the New Reg / New Model kick and hence noticeable by the absence of 15 plated MK3.

I'll ask the owners son the next time I get to see him.

If they are slow getting into the UK there are only going to be what there was available out and about as Demonstrators,

& now those they can get Registered in time for the End of March Registration.

We have a 'Owners Register' now in Briskoda with 4 Owners,

and the handful that have said theirs are due soon, and others that are ordered and have build dates.

Long time since last year at this time as Skoda were Leaking through Insiders and building up to Motorshows,

then the Full Reveal, Price Release, Production Line fired up etc.

Maybe lots out in other World Regions and they are just letting the excitement build in the UK.

Maybe they should have done the usual, produce some in gaudy colours and send them out and about.

The Adverts have those that notice,  looking at a Sporty Racing Blue Fabia, and then in the Flesh they just see another Fabia.

According to my dealer whom I got my MK3 from, the estates are outselling the hatchbacks by 3 to 1..........hardly surprising as the Estate sits pretty much alone in it's segment.

In short: none at all.

But I can- over here, that is - see an astonishing abscense of advertisements on the never models, ads only for sale on older 2014s, which compared with the very long delivery times gives me the idea that the number of orders are somewhat overwhelming for the factory.

I ordered mine at the weekend of introduction, think it was Jan 17, and the shop was crowded, the salesmen swetty but happy and the waiting times for test drives were hideous!

My guess is itsa success.

And its also unusually better looking !

Just looking at the SMMT figures for curiosity and no Skoda is in the top 10 so all that can be said is that in February less than 1436 Fabia's (new and old model?) were registered (Number 10 was the Fiat 500 @1436)

Shocking for Fiat that they registered a total of 1941 cars in February of which 1436 were 500's. They rely on that more than Skoda do the Fabia.

A lot of the Purple Rinse brigade round my area are buying bigger Skoda's I'm seeing a lot of new Yeti's about.

January - February are not an true indication of Model Sales if you have a change over of Models,

and the first Quarters most First Registrations will be in March.

Ford Sell / First register more Ford Fiesta in a year in the UK than all the Skoda that get First Registered / Sold in the UK.

Not all Sold New obviously, they still register and the sell used, and then Lease and supply Fleet & Hire, Utilities, Health Boards etc.

Like many Citigo that went out to be Meter Readers means of Transport.

Then think of all those 500's that were Motoring School cars.

Think of all those 'Hire Cars' sitting at Airports, often Fiats & Vauxhalls.

The biggest group / corporate buyer of cars in the UK is 'Motability Finance' that buys them outright for the 3 year lease

then puts them to auction.

That will be changing this year and next as the Benefit changes to PIP and many no longer get what was DLA HR MC

and can not Lease a car using their benefits.

I an area that is notoriously Skoda popular, I was out yesterday, going passed the Skoda dealership, one white with black demo on display but having covered some 50 plus mile, some urban, still not set eyes on one 15 plated mk3.

Perhaps the Silver Surfers / Blue Rinse brigade are holding back until after the Election.

Or waiting on Briskoda Members reviews!

Or even more VFM wise these day!

I've only seen two Mk III's so far outside a dealership, one on the open road near York and the other parked up in our village, however that was a local dealers loan/demo car.

Sounds like it's selling as well as the Rapid did.

But maybe that's just because of the delays between ordering and arriving.  They haven't been out long.

One thing is pretty sure, and that is once there are enough cars built for the UK, Alasdair Stewarts Skoda UK team will have cars Registered and out and about.  Making offers to Business Users that are hard to ignore.

Maybe Fleet cars that will be turned over after a year and put to Forecourts or Auctions and keeping the First Years Quarters showing

the new car as a success.

Other VW Group Brands take models that are not selling and always first register 100 or 200 cars so that they do not appear on some list showing they are Sales Failures.

Where I live in South west Scotland, I have only seen 1 Mk 3, an SEL Estate. Mk2s are plentiful as are Octavias. I pick up my Mk3 Estate on Thursday so that will be 2 Estates in the County lol!

Being a new owner of a Skoda I do spot them on the roads now. I've seen a couple so far. I do spot lots of Skoda's about.

Driving past a small dealership I seem to see lots of the rapid.

Motorways I only seem to see foreign small Skoda's and some Octavias.

That's quite interesting. I have had more calls from the dealer I have used in the past about the new Fabia than I can remember. That's despite me telling him (twice) that I am not ready to change at present.

Me too!

Both times I told them "If they make a VRS version, we'll talk"

Then had the cheek to ring me a third time to tell me about some exciting offers on the new Fabia. Once again I had to remind him that a) I've changed manufacturer and am quite happy with it. and b ) unless they make a MK3 Fabia VRS, I won't be looking to go near the brand again.

I just hope some of this feedback is relayed back to Skoda and VAG. Somehow I doubt it.

Sounds like it's selling as well as the Rapid did.

But maybe that's just because of the delays between ordering and arriving.  They haven't been out long.

Hopefully then, we can look forward to some mega deals and heavy, heavy discounts in the near future .

If they do it will be going back to Skoda of old. Big value for money

Probably because the 'sportiest' engine you can get is a measly 1.2 TSI - MEH!

If they did a 1.4 ACT like the Ibiza and polo, or even a VRS Model, I would 100% look further into the new Fabia.

With the fabia model range and engine choice that's out there at the moment, it doesn't wet my appetite!

Hmmmm. Quite sure that the Skoda-crowd are not that horsepower obsessed as some members of this fine forum believe to represent.

Skoda and sport really doesnt match well in the same sentence.

IMHO. ;)

Which does not mean anything disparaging either as regards the mark or owners.

Why does Skoda put Time Money & Effort into Promoting the Brand using Rallying and Motorsport and using the Mororsport Heritage and Success, then have no Sporty or even slightly Warm Small hatches.

Odd to use the Mk2 Fabia Body shape then now the All New 3rd Generation Fabia shape, yet say no vRS, and not even a sniff of a

AWD version of the Estate.

We will see what comes though, if they do have any success with the 1.6 T R5,  maybe they can Sticker up a 1.0 3 Cylinder 60 ps

Fabia and call it a Monte Carlo Fast as Flippin heck,

Sporty, Crispier, Squat, Emotional & Youthful & cheap Insurance.

So as a dozen other in general not very sporty marks are marketing themselves. Citroen, Audi, Subaru etc. Not many Ferraris or Maseratis in this segment.... ;)
