Modifications for a novice..........Recomendations?

Featured Replies

I've had my TSi VRs octavia for about two years now and haven't done anything, mainly because I done have much practical skills when it comes to cars and also have just been happy with the car.

Can you lovely (more experienced) guys suggest relatively simple (and cost conscious) modifications that I should consider?

After a bit of reading, items for me to consider are;

Stage 1 remap

Replacement fuel filter and spark plugs (4 yr old car now)

Knocking out the CAT from the mid section or get a de-cat

H&R rear anti roll bar

Anything else I should think of?

Front grille colour coded.

Front grille colour coded.

Spray it myself or do you buy a new one?

I got a donor item from a scrappy, de-chromed it and sprayed it myself. Peeling the chrome off is the tedious and labour intensive part, though.

When the time comes for you to sell up, put your original grille back on and sell the colour coded one on here.

People always seem be on the look out for them.

I strongly recommend having the timing chain tensioner, timing chain and guide rails replaced prior to any engine mods.

Lowering Springs

Winter Alloys and Tyres

remap is a must

filters/spark plugs are maintenance items - you might also factor in a clean air filter & some coil packs when you get the remap

It's the cat up near the turbo that you want to knock out, not the mid section.  Cat1 is 800 cells and right next to the turbo. Cat 2 is 600 cells.  If you knock out #2 & leave #1 in it's still restricted.

You can redrill your existing RSB so the arm is shorter - it does help.

my suggestions:

  • Really sticky tyres
  • S3 spec console bushes
  • decent dampers
