Mk1 fabia vrs suspension

Featured Replies

Hi guys I am looking to lower my fabia vrs but not sure whether to buy springs or coilovers can anyone help me on this please or any links?

cheers guys!

Depends entirely on what you want from the car, what it's used for and ultimately your budget. Bear in mind that other things could want replacing with the age of these now to get the best benefit.

Personally for a daily driver/fast road I'd avoid coil-overs and go with a good shock/spring combo with a sensible drop. Remember lower doesn't = better handling.

AP do a good value shock/spring kit http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/cheap/713888/skoda/ap-suspension-kits/sp82-018.html

I'd also consider upgrading the console bushes to the cupra or PSB ones and looking at a white-line rear anti-roll bar.

How low are you wanting to go and did you have a budget in mind?

Thanks guys.. I think I'd like to lower by 30 or 35 I've got about £450 to spend altogether if that's an ok budget

Have you tried searching the forum for information? The AP springs/coil overs/lowering/suspension debate has been raging since year 0.

Have a search, you'll find all sorts of tips and advice :)

I have some excellent low mileage fk high sport coilovers for sale, about to put them on for sale section. Removed as too firm for me my mate says there fine and I'm getting too old.

Hi thanks for the offer mate but think I'm going to go for shocks / springs instead of coilovers cheers anyway

Don't forget to look into replacing the perishable components too, bushes being the main ones. If it was me I'd probably replace everything as it's pointless spending hundreds on a nice shiny new suspension kit to then pair it with 7-10 year old sloppy bushes! As a minimum I'd do the front wishbone console bush.

Would you define everything please, im thinking of also going the road use, but cheap.. car has done 140k so im looking to replace all that i can, but would like some insight before i take apart, would like all the stuff before hand

cheers

IMO it's well worth latching onto any group buys you come across. I got Eibach springs and dampers fitted for about £530ish... OK, so that was in 2006/2007 but was still effectively free fitting @ Jabbasport on already discounted price.

If it's done 140k I'd say do the job properly so replace all the rubber bushings/items. It's also recommended to use new bolts but most don't bother. Depends how OCD you are with such things.

On the front you have:

Console bushes, front wishbone bushes, anti-roll bar bushes, anti-roll bar drop links, ball joints, track rod/rod ends and strut top mounts.

On the rear you have:
Axle beam bushes, bump stops (go for the shorter cupra ones) and the rubber coil spring mounts.

The essential ones if you can't budget for everything would be the console bushes and top mounts on the front, then just check everything else for play and replace as/when.
On the rear the rubber coil mounts and bump stops (go for the shorter cupra ones) are probably well worn/deteriorated by now.

ok cheers, it has new uprated drop links, previously fitted.. no idea what brand, they are a gold colour (not painted) and are adjustable. I have replaced front wishbone bushes both upper outer, lower inner (or what ever way around) with polybushes, dog bone and gear box mounts,CV boots all replaced. All the other you have mentioned (not suspension) have been inspected and mechanic said have been replaced or are in good nick.

So what parts are replaceable on front suspension and back?

front :

top mount (is there a bush?)

damper

suspention

top bolts

back:

rubber coil mount (is this top mount?)

and ive no idea what a bump stop is, is this just on the back?

All the parts I've listed are pretty much anything that can fail/perish with age.

The front top mounts are a bush and a bearing, worth doing as you have to remove the strut to do them... so if you chance it and they start to knock it means taking your struts off again. Same with the rear rubber coil mount and bump stops, both easier to do when you are changing the struts/springs. If you don't know what/where they are you can find pictures of them on google by typing something like 'Fabia vRS bump stops' and 'Fabia vRS coil mount'.
