Gti to vrs

Featured Replies

i reacently brought a mk 7 gti and really pleased with it except the boot space which is not really big enough for my dog would a vrs estate be a good enough replacement ?????

Yep. Just as good but with a massive boot.

If it's any help, my two decent sized greyhounds fit in mine without needing to fold the rear seats down. :)

Yeah, my bro in law has the gtd golf and its a lovely car, but very similar to the octavia but with out the 610 litre boot. Not sure if you can get a gtd or gti estate in the golf which would seem the other option but still not as big a boot at the oct, as the oct is bigger than the current passat aswell.

You don't need the estate as the hatchback boot is massive.  I changed my Volvo V50 for the Octavia Hatch and my Labrador is quite happy in the boot.

Go and try one out. You may like it, or may not.

To be fair the build quality of the Brand has made massive leaps forward.... I came from an 11 plate Merc.

Gone from an edn30 DSG golf to a vrs tsi DSG hatch octavia. Skoda make a crackin' car. The hatch boot is massive, the reason why i changed. Its smoother, feels quicker and gets more 2nd glances than my golf ever did! Get a test drive. ;-)

If i was you I go and test drive one to see if you like the octavia vRS

The octavia is gested like a golf but better

I'd say the Golf is the better car overall, but if space is a priority then the Octavia has it solidly beat. The vRS offers 90% of the GTI's performance and refinement, with 120% of the space. Also, the hatch is nearly as large, but the estate is more versatile and much better looking.

As above, personally Id rather a GTI/GTD as they feel more premium and probably drive a touch better too....though if load space is a priority then a vRS is rather a no brainer.

Whilst Skodas have made great strides, IMHO they just are never quite as good as their VW counterparts.....that never really mattered to me before as youd pay a lot less money for one......that now is not so true as Skoda is now a well respected brand and VAG are trying to flog them at semi-premium money now and mostly succeeding. Nearly 25k for a basic TSI that in some respects is not as well specified as the Golf is quite a big ask.

I've got a Golf R and previously had three Octy vRS's for just this reason, the boot is massive (which is what you need with small children!).  The boot floor area is the same between hatch and estate but obviously you can load the estate higher.  Arguably the estate looks the better too.  I've just ordered an Octy Scout as a second car; aside from being hugely practical I got a cracking lease deal on it.

I don't like estates spawned from hatchbacks (I know the Octy is a hatch but you know what I mean).

But this one looks good if the pictures are correct.

It doesn't. You're wrong.

Looks good to me, and I dont even like golfs.

I like the look of the golf.... Only comes with 17's as standard though..... Makes you wonder what else will not be standard?

the gti/gtd comes with 18s as standard as well as acc and front assist, i think it comes with some other stuff that the octavia doesnt get, the 5 door is only £3k more rrp than the octavia as well, once you add the extras this isnt half bad

But there are better savings off list to be had on the octavia in my experience.

I agree you get a lot for a (decent spec) octavia. My colleague enjoyed quoting the tech he has with his new amg line c class merc but went quiet when I revealed my octavia has the same level of equipment (but zero badge kudos).

Seems a pretty good compromise!

Is it me or does the back end of that golf Combi look very similar to Octavia's (yes I know they share the same platform), but I must say the rear of that R version does look good.

If I had the extra cash I would love a golf r wagon over my vrs combi

I came from an astra estate and have to say that my octy hatch's boot is just as big.

The original link says, "They’re topped off by thin-spoked 17-inch alloys and black roof rails".

Uk market got 18's as standard on the hatch gtd but still no official word on UK spec for the gtd estate yet.

If I had the money, I would take the haldex/performance upgrade rumoured for £10k, buy an ex demo VRS TSI with all the toys, drop it off at APR for tuning and have the all important space in the back of the car (not just the boot if comparing to the Golf R estate) and still probably spend less than a new Golf R estate with all the toys would cost,..

Each to their own I guess,..
