SKODA OCTAVIA OIL LAMP LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING

Featured Replies

My Skoda Octavia's oil lamp is constantly flashing. I've got the car checked out by the Garage and they can't find any problem and don't know what's wrong with my car. Does anyone know what's wrong and how i can fix this problem?

Welcome to Briskoda. Which model Octavia is it?

I am going to assume mark 1 octavia for now,  Moving to that forum. :)

It's low oil pressure. I've had two instances of it through my ownership. The first time was after I'd just bought it. Two weeks i think it was. That was when i was daft enough to use my main dealer which they diagnosed as a faulty oil pump. I had no bother til about a month ago. Flashing oil light came on after some spirited driving. I dropped the sump off to find a blocked oil strainer. It was bits off the dipstick plus excessive sealant from skoda being in there changing the pump. I wouldn't drive the car either you could damage the engine.

I can confirm that , driving a vrs with a flashing oil light 50 miles home = bottom end failure :(

mine was a faulty oil pump :(

Mine was making all kinds of clatter when my light was on. I was lucky i knocked it off straight away and had it taken to the garage on a flatbed.

It could be any of:-

  1. Failed oil pressure switch
  2. Failed oil pump
  3. Blocked pickup.

(1) becomes increasingly likely the more miles it's done since the light started flashing. About the only test I know is to replace the switch temporarily with an oil pressure gauge pickup.

Id guess oil pick up

Its flashing for a reason and for that reason i would not be driving it until remedied. Unless you like your engine in pieces

Which light and what colour is flashing.
