Looking for alternator clutch pulley: Fabia 1.4l 8v, no aircon

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Fabia is making a scraping, whirring noise and I've been told this is due to the alternator clutch pulley being knackered. I've looked on Eurocarparts and GSF but I can't find the pulley for my model. It's a 2002 Fabia, 1.4l 8v petrol, without air-conditioning.

Could someone recommend a part number or a source please?

Edit: grammar

If the pulley is ok, and it only has a bit of a play, it's because of the worn bearings and those can be replaced. It's an easy and cheap intervention.

You may need to know both engine code and which manufacturer and ampere rating the alternator is.

You can then find which version number applies from this list (left hand column in table, heading REF).

Then go through the multiple item 2s in this page, cross-referencing the numbers in the NOTES column against what you just found on the previous page under REF. Then you'll have a part number. Tedious.

Orrrrr, try to spot it engraved/stamped on the pulley that's on the car.

If it were me, I'd phone up my local Skoda dealership parts department and try to prise the correct part number out of them.

Edit: actually it's easier than I'm making out.  The only three part numbers that mention a freewheel pulley are the first number 2 and the 15th and 16th number 2s in that list on the second link. Both of the latter are for various 3-cyl engines, so yours must be the first one 022903119C. I think?

Alexandru: Thank you, even if it's just the bearing I'd still worry about the life expectancy of the rest of the assembly?

W: Thank you, that looks really useful. I'll look up the numbers tonight.

I forgot to ask: Once I know what pulley is fitted, how do I work out what tool I need?

Dunno on the tool front.  Our Fabia is supposed to have a freewheel pulley, but doesn't, even though the part number of the alt matches what's in those pages, so I've never thought to look for appropriate tools. A spare genuine alt with the same correct part number also doesn't have the freewheel pulley, so that list may not be completely 'true'. :)

I thought only the diesels had a freewheeling pulley, mine certainly doesn't. Tensioner bearing failing?

@daddylonglegs: IMHO, that's the only thing that might get worn. I had the same noise and this is how it has been fixed. That pulley it's a simple metal component, that can get wrong only if it has been hit with a hammer. The bearings do most of the work and take all the stress. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.
