Suzuki Vitara (New model) and S Cross Thread

sadly we never get extended range golf carts and the ones we do see have been hammered. I suspect that the batteries have had a lot of relatively quick charges which wont have done their life expectancy any good either. I asked if I could have a V8 cart if I drove it quietly. I was even more surprised to be told "no"!  Well perhaps not that surprised. Maybe I should ask Colin Furze to build me one :)

  • Well the Vitara copes with light snow quite well

  • Well we finally succumbed and ordered the FWD Solar Yellow/Black roof  Boosterjet as a friend has been pestering us for our ‘white goods’ auto Astra due to her deteriorating knee making the clutch pai

  • Well we finally have our ‘golden oldie’. It steers very well, has a brilliant auto and the display says 21.1km/litre - almost 60mpg. It feels positively old fashioned in that it’s lightness

I can do that already and recharge my 'fuel cell' in around 5 mins including payment at the pump :D Plus it sounds nicer :D (the car, not the pump)

You can't argue with the figures, but sometimes in not just about getting there, it's about the journey.

I have a colleague who is a petrol head and he is keeping an eye on electric stuff. Although it will be a big swing to go from an RS4 with crazy exhaust to a whisper quiet 'e' car. Mind you he is looking at i8s so he is beginning to weaken :D

I just read my first review of the Jimny. Looks like they have a winner on their hands (hopefully) and possibly best of all, it isn't any wider than the previous model Yay :)

New Jimny Linky

That is under 2" longer and under 2" taller, the height being mostly down to the tyre sidewall difference possibly and a Ooo or Ahh difference in the springs.

(no roof bars, so really not higher than the outgoing one.)

Still not sure if it is FWD with the 'AllGrip Pro' bringing in the rear wheel drive because that is what Auto Express have said before

& not as now RWD when in 2 wd High..

That is sadly not so good IMO if that is what it is FWD.

If the cheapest manual Jimny on sale in the UK in 2019 is £13,500 that will be amazing.

If they drive well it is the Automatic's price that matters to me.

The new Jimny looks great. I've never been a fan of off roaders / SUV's etc but the Jimny is tugging at my heart strings haha!!

I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later. Liberty Walk has walked all over the new Jimny (see what I did there?) and made a mini...er, G wagon?

I actually think it looks quite cute, but obviously wouldn't admit to that in public

Some will produce a snorkle, axle breathers, a legal winch bumper and proper recovery points which will be functional rather than just stylee plastic tat.

It’s beauty is in it’s nimble lightness AFAIC.

I doubt Liberty Walk would know what those were and what to do with the gear if it swam up behind them and bit them on the bum

Ryman,

It is, and its ability to get places and get out again.

But if you do want to use offroad you can not have the engine inhaling H2o or the axle oil taking in H2o, and the tie down points that they come from are no use to be recovered or do recoveries.

I guess the retail outlet for them would be called the GSpot perhaps ?.

Hmmm .......not that much fording water but but certainly a bull bar and winch are the slippery slope to an overweight (under powder?) blundering device AFAIC.   Of course it would also have less chance of floating away, which is a form of compensation I guess.

A bit of plastic tubing is an easy fix though.

(I think the idea is that it would attract a lot of eyeballs at the shopping centre car park))

^^^^ with all the options I assume

People will soon modify the new cars when they get them if they are going to use them offroad or as working vehicles, recovery points being the first and most important thing.

The 1,298 & 1,328cc engines have done OK for 20 years so the 1,500cc should be just fine if you get rid of any useless tat and fit the essentials.

The modern version of the old “speed shops” is now the SUV/4WD/AWD mod shop selling more weighty stuff needing even more modifications to carry the extra weight all adding up to an expensive ‘rig’ to parade around in most of the time.

I would have loved to have an old banger in a shed in our high country........one that I didn’t have to worry about getting stolen.

I’m more into the less is more attitude these days.

Too big for our high country tracks though.

For anyone still interested in the Vitara, I have an interesting dilemma with mine. The PCP runs out in January and I can buy it for a reasonable sum. Turns out the car has around £4,000 of equity in it! Very pleasantly surprised, possibly a tad more, as winter is coming and it's an All-grip model. As a percentage of the cars original cost and including the reasonable interest rate on the PCP, this makes the car the least depreciating one I have ever owned. The final GFV wasn't set particularly low either. Well done Suzuki. I am pretty sure I will keep it as not only is it in superb condition but I know the one lady owner :) Also Suzuki doesn't make a diesel version any more either :(

But there is a bit of a warning to people in my situation

The downside is I might need a small loan and can't get one :D Turns out as I have a PCP on the M4 and I wish to pay off the PCP on the Vitara before the final payment (or at least on the final day of the PCP), an extra loan takes me over £50K in loans, even though this is only temporary and that triggers an automatic refusal of a loan. I discover this after 2 rejections, one of which was with my Bank, the RB of S. Although they didn't want to discuss this and it was left to Sainsburys bank to give the me the truth of the matter. Annoying because I have just paid off my mortgage and have no dependents so I am in a financial good position. I have never missed a payment for anything in my life and have never had a bank balance in the red in over 30 years. I also have my mortgage, 3 current accounts (mostly empty :D) a credit card (clear of debt) and my business accounts with the RBS. I pointed out the loan would also reduce my monthly payments noticeably too, so it was even better for my credit situation. But no!  Not at all happy with them.

I have contacted other banks and have been told my income versus outgoings is great and I should have no problem with securing a loan. I explained this possible £50k, or similar, credit ceiling and they said it should be OK. I pointed out if I got an automatic rejection it would begin to affect my credit rating pretty soon and they effectively shrugged their shoulders. I am in a position that I have good credit rating, disposable income, no mortgage or dependents and I could easily slip into having a poor credit rating. Pretty cross really.

Anyhoo, it turns out there may be a bright side. although I paid my Offset mortgage off, I have kept the account open, which is available until it's original closing date of June 2022 (I've been overpaying to finish my mortgage early, hence I'm a bit skint). I'm waiting for a call back, but hopefully I can borrow using my Offset Mortgage account and it should avoid the possibility of the credit ceiling rejection. Hopefully I should be able to keep on the right side of my good credit rating, but who knows (I really don't want to keep paying to find out)

Finance! so ruddy inflexible and gung ho with your credit rating.
