Suzuki Vitara (New model) and S Cross Thread

Well if you like the ubiquitous yeti I suppose it might

It's anything BUT ubiquitous in the antipodes and as far as white goes I can't think of a better looking car as long as it's got the grunty bits.

  • Well the Vitara copes with light snow quite well

  • Well we finally succumbed and ordered the FWD Solar Yellow/Black roof  Boosterjet as a friend has been pestering us for our ‘white goods’ auto Astra due to her deteriorating knee making the clutch pai

  • Well we finally have our ‘golden oldie’. It steers very well, has a brilliant auto and the display says 21.1km/litre - almost 60mpg. It feels positively old fashioned in that it’s lightness

Well it's fair to say I am not in the Antipodes

Did you use RRG in Stockport?

Have you used them or even Colin Appleyard in Ashton for any problems on your previous Suzukis?

I've got some brake issues someone needs to look at.

I will be very interested how you get on with your new Vit. Please keep us updated. I to have had Suzis in the family for years. Started with a SJ413, moved onto a Jimny and two years ago bought a new Jimny with auto box. Being very hilly where I live a 4x4 is essential when the ice comes. Would be interested in the auto version which I don't think hits the UK until June time.

I think it's grown up.  It's had to looking at it's competitors.  Just look at the popularity of the Kia Sportage amongst the Mummys at Waitrose

I did get it from Mike at Stockport . Nice guy to deal with......so far :D

This will be my third Suzuki if you count the Sedici (Fiat / Suzuki). I will be using it a lot in the North East were it is pretty hilly and will make regular trips over the North Pennines, so I am hoping the light weight and torquey diesel will be fine. Will let you know how it goes, but don't get it until mid May and then wont drive it much until mid July thanks to work :( It should be perfect for what I want if it performs as it should. People make too much in comparing it to other marques. It isn't a competitor to the Yeti (it;s smaller and a lot cheaper) it's not an X1 or Q3 as they are from a class above and then some. A Captur or Juke, perhaps an alternative, except it is really aimed at practicality imho as well as being smart in a none challenging way. As I have said before, it's an honest little car and all the better for it :) Although I am looking at it as a 4x4 and I guess most customers will just opt for the FWD.

To me the Yeti and Vitara are 'tools' as opposed to city slicker 'cafe racers' like the CX3.

Then there is the Citroen C4 Cactus due soon which is about the same length as the Yeti and I guess makes it worth a thought.

Must be due soon where you are, but quite established in the UK but not a big seller yet.

Already available at discounted prices and as a bargain used.

I would have thought the Pug 1.2 - 96kw/230nm would be used in it or are Peugeot not sharing it yet?

Euro 6 Emission engines for Europe is the requirement for later this year & by 2016, is what they were after,

& lots of other Manufacturers now need, lighter cars and less emissions.

The available engines propel the cars quite well to suit the UK roads and Speed Limits,

other World Regions might get other Engines, and maybe the AWD's will come,  but with Electric Rear Drive Motors.

In Oz the Pug engine is euro6 compliant so it's surprising that that particular power unit is not available in the Cactus.

Different car class,

is the Cactus available now in Australia then, so what engines do you get?

It hasn't been released yet out here, it's an all new model.

Is it out in Europe?

As i said in post #35,

Discounts available because no Matter being What Car, or TopGear car of the Year not many are selling in great numbers,

& you can get Bargains in Ex Demonstrators & Used ones.

I have Driven the Petrol & Diesel Automatics.

Now I'm confused.

Have you seen the all new model Cactus with the 'bubble wrap' sides?

Yes.

I have Driven them.

& the New Vitara, & the New Renegade.

I try to get a drive in every new Automatic and usually do.

This one is not mine, just a neighbours & a manual.

What are they like George? The 9 speed in the Jeep looks interesting.

As for the cactus, they must have only sold them around here because I see loads every day whilst chewing up tarmac each day.

They are selling,

but Q1 numbers for 2015 are not that high, compared to high sellers obviously, but when you see them you certainly notice them.

The Cactus is just like the other Citroen Autos, and it is an acquired taste, and for me with a Petrol it is good enough and not with a diesel.

9 Speed Jeep is Nice,

a bit like a BMW Series 2 Active Tourer 8 Speed Steptronic,

and you are getting near enough to being a CVT, but then i like that.

From what I've read there is a transmission 'speed war' as in the number of gears - I seem to recall talk of an 11 speed one.

If so we will obviously need one to get a pint of milk.

Lots of shifts required from 0-70 mph.

Some of us that have High & Low Transfer Boxes have had 8 or more forward gears for decades.

Surprised CVT isn't more popular as we shift to economy over performance from a consumer/taxation standpoint.
