Bike Carrier

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a rear bike carrier for 2013 Octavia VRS hatchback? I am after a non tow bar carrier that will take 3 bikes and not too expensive.

Thanks in advance.

Saris bones. I have one (but I have no octavia)good solid carrier though.

Thule ride on is great

As far as I know Thule does not have any rear bike carriers for hatch.

Use a Thule roof mount.

Our Mont Blanc 3 bike carrier was excellent on our Octavia estate as it lifted the bikes above the rear lights and number plate.

No good for a car with a spoiler though!

However it will be for sale soon as I've changed car.

I've just had this problem over the weekend. I bought an Exodus 3-bike carrier for my Mazda 6 Estate but after I put it together (amazing considering the instructions seem to be written in Esperanto) and tried to fit it I realised it wasn't going to work because of the rear roof spoiler. The weight of the carrier and the bikes would have broken the spoiler off.

So without a tow bar it looks like I'm stuck with a roof-mounted solution :'(

The Exodus did seem pretty sturdy though and £99 from Halfords isn't bad value.

EDIT: Just checked the list of compatible cars on the Halfords website for this model and the Skoda Octavia hatchback isn't on it

If you get some roof bars for the octavia, I would of thought any roof based carrier would work?

I think the problem with the Octy 3 is the glass top edge to the hatch. The strap hooks need to be mounted on a metal frame. Apart from any damage to the edge of the glass, the lever forces would be pulling the glass off the underlying frame. Anyone else agree?

Only options really are inside, on the roof, or towball mount. That's my option, removable towball and folding Thule bike holder. Expensive, but worth it in the long run. And I'm too short to get the bikes on the roof.
