A bus pass! Will improve your MPG considerably.

No, there is nothing you can buy that will make any major difference to your MPG on the 1.2TSI. There are some remapping services available, but they seem to focus more on squeezing a little more power out of the lump rather than making it more frugal.

What will your driving mostly consist of? Motorways, local roads, short trips to the shops, long runs etc? All makes a big difference to the MPG that can be achieved.

The 1.2 TSI responds well to a light foot. Handle the controls lightly and you'll get good fuel economy in the 45-50 mpg range if you do a good mix of motorways and local roads. If your use is predominantly long runs on free-flowing motorways, you should have no trouble getting comfortably above 52mpg per tank.

Avoid dumb stuff like using cruise control at lower speeds (it's best saved for prolonged runs at 60+), heavy footed acceleration and generally driving like you stole it.

Yeah just the usual stuff like try not to accelerate while cornering, if there's nothing close behind you take your foot off the throttle when approaching junctions, roundabouts etc. look as far ahead as possible to try and judge traffic and traffic lights. Anything that stops you using the brakes more than is absolutely necessary. I also turn off cruise control when going down hills.

On my drive to and from work I can get through built up areas, two roundabouts, a 60mpg stretch and a few other bits only touching the brakes twice.

The warmer weather is helping as well. On a drive to band practice normally I managed to get it to just hit 50mpg as I was turning into the car park, tonight I got 57mpg. That was also a brand new engine vs. one that has now done 3000 miles. I'm also trying out Tesco Momentum to see if that could make any difference but a tank of petrol lasts so long with this car that I'm still a couple of weeks away from finding out for sure if it's having any effect.

Really [emoji15]

You obviously don't do many miles. Mine used to use fuel very quickly.

A Greentech on skinny tyres will whup your Sport's mpg even if driven identically.

and get £30 road tax...

I've had the car 20 weeks and that divided by the 3000 miles that are now on it means roughly 150 miles per week. I'm getting about 3-4 weeks out of a tank. I was filling up every fortnight with the Honda it was that poor - a long run sometimes got me 43mpg if I was lucky.

I don't think that I use the advantage of the Greentec which is the stop-start very often. I only got it because the extra cost will be offset with the reduction in road tax within the first two years
