Power stearing and throttle up date problem

Featured Replies

Hi all can any one help.. I have a Rapid space back with factory fitted "intelagent tow bar !!!" 1.4 dgs tsi

It went in for a first service with no problems on its return I was told that there was a recall on the power straring and throtel and this work had been done.

All ok so far...

the next day I attached my small 5ft runabout trailer and the crews control just hunted and hunted and never settled the stearing wheel was vibrating really hard...I spoke to garage and they said that the updates etc could not cause this.... so I took the car and trailer in and took the eng for a test run and he agreed that there was a problem......left the car with them there master tech looked at software the shaking stearing was because the abs was kiking in  but not applying the brake and shaking the stearing wheel and on close inspection the software up date had over written the tow bar software so crouse control software did not know trailer fitted......the state of play is that I have a car with a computer that they can not update or reprogram back to factory defaults the car refuses to update or down date the garage have told me even skoda have remotly logged in and can not get ti to reboot...... dose any one know where the CTR Alt Det key is on a space back

Well the cars is back and towing perfect.......

for those intrested... the story as told by the workshop........

the up date for the steering and throttle were done but skoda forgot about factory fitted towbars and one or both overwrote the tow bar s/w as suspected....but then locked all attempts to update or down grade the s/w....skoda uk could not get in to the car remotley....they had to rewrite the workshop software with a hot patch to break into the car s/w........this done they could then work on the car s/w live!!!!! and completely rewrite the s/w updates to reflect that a intelligent factory fitted tow bar fitted........the result is that the s/w now sees the trailer and runs like a dream on a passing point the car now goes like a bat out of hell I believe the up date that they did.... did a lot more crupting than they let on...... all done under warranty

please do not believe a person when you get told that the s/w update we did can not cause the problems you describe Sir !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

My 13 reg 1.4TSI DSG already goes like a bat out of hell when asked. Would love to find out if the mod  would add even more zip? ;<)

Apparently mines not flagged up on there computer for either of the updates. I'll double check tomorrow when I pick it up.

Just had a call from the local dealer to say our Spaceback TSI 105 is in need of these updates, which will be done with the first service on Friday.

MY14 built around late March, or early April 2014.

Not noticed any issues with either of these parts of the car to date, appear to be working fine to me, so will be interesting to see if anything is different after this work is done.

Mine didn't need either apparently.

Wish we knew what the actual change is and what cars are affected,,just dont trust the Skoda system to let me know??????????????

Yes would be interesting to know. They told me that mine just didn't flag up for these updates.

How come Skoda UK cannot respond on the forum???

I have a Kia CEED also and Kia UK respond to questions and try to answer

I can assure you they do look on here 100%. When I was going through the rejection of mine they said to me I was a member on here and that they've been reading my threads and other things. I told them it's good they do as its good for there customer service and they can learn things from here from "real" people [emoji4]

Yes,

But it would be great if they took up the challenge and actively partake in the forum and dialogue.???

Also yes good idea [emoji106]

Probably in fear of being constantly slated [emoji6]

From what i've read on here,

The accelerator is a pedal change

The steering mod is a software update.

But yes - why dont SUK use this forum to announce stuff like that.

And SEAT UK too... I phoned my dealer from the US to enquire about these 2 "recalls", and eventually they determined that my car (which SWMBO has been driving for months) is subject to both recalls.  thanks for telling me - NOT.  With an 18000 service interval, I could be driving a defective vehicle for years!!

Thought it says somewhere that steering change was Electric from Hydraulic/Electric??

CONFUSED??

That is correct, that's what mine went in for & was done. Didn't notice anything wrong with the pedal beforehand but they (Simpson's) replaced it any how. Everything seems O.K now.

I think the earlier ones were Hydraulic/Electric and all later ones are Electric?

I'm slightly confused about which ones are affected and which ones aren't. Mine was which is the SE Connect, but the Black editions (released shortly after the SE Connect) weren't.

My garage contacted me to inform me about the Advisory Campaign and they got it sorted pretty quickly, despite the inaccurate opinion of someone who I won't name...

Just back from the service and in the 20 odd mile drive home I couldn't detect any change from having these updates; thankfully.

Hi Guys

How many of you had the factory fitted tow bar as a option?

the car was perfect  with the updates un till I connected the trailer then the probem showed up as described.

my local garage told me that out of aprox 500 cars they sold that only 2 had tow bars fitted and mine was the first to have its service and update.

the s/w over wrote the tower s/w causing the cruse control to hunt and the abs to fire the stearing colum sencers etc but with out the trailer on the car you would have no indcation that there was a problem so don't worry un less you have the factory intelagent towbar fitted...
