Grating/squeaking from front right of car

Featured Replies

I'm hearing a squeaking noise from the front right of my car, near the wheel, when driving, particularly when going over bumps or slowing down (without braking). Turning left seems to exacerbate it too. Sometimes the squeaking becomes more like the grating of metal against metal.

The problem developed just after servicing, when the front tyres were replaced, which seems too much of a co-incidence. It is intermittent and of course I could hardly reproduce it when I took it back to the garage.

Can anyone can suggest what might be wrong from listening to the audio?

I had similar with my 05 plate octy. In my case it turned out to be the tin disc shield behind the disc. Either a stone catches between the disc and guard or later it had rusted and bits had bent in touching the disc.

Have the same issue with mine now and again. Not picked up on MOT however earlier this month and hasn't made the noise for a while

I took it down the garage again. There was a more senior technician in this time. As soon as he heard the recording he knew it was a stone, and got rid of it soon enough. Guess it would've sorted itself out eventually but good to get peace of mind!

Thanks for the replies.
