smart gate retrofit

Recommended Posts

seems a module is available to retrofit smartgate onto rapids

saw a link in the fabia 3 section and a specific module is available for rapids

a quick google, about £140-£150, but says dealer fit, so I assume it needs coding, not sure is any of our member who have the relevant can do it yet for beer tokens

I bought a wireless obd2 thing (£15 off eBay) and have a app on my phone which does much the same as the smart gate I'm lead to believe... Although I do have the skoda service app (which has the smart gate function on it) on my phone and the most useful part is the downloadable manual and the remember where I parked function.

You can put Carista on your iPhone and do some VCDS type tuning with a Bluetooth OBD2 adaptor.

I use a iOBD2 wireless device in my car - when it's connected to the port it presents as a wireless hotspot, and is both iPhone and Android compatible.

the iOBD2 app is pretty good too - http://iobd2.co.uk

I just downloaded Carista app for my iPhone. You need to buy the pro version £14.99 to do things like coming home lights, sound when you lock and unlock the car etc and it kept crashing BUT... a quick email later and they sent me through a test version and all is well. Works GREAT!!!

If anyone wants to set their indicator flashes from three to five then this does it.

if you want to adjust which doors lock and unlock...

If you want your break lights to flash when doing an emergency stop...

If you want a sound when you lock and unlock...

there are loads of feature and its a fault code reader to so worth the £15 in my opinion.

Shame it can't so the dial staging ;) I'll feed it back to them!

not quite the thread I was expecting, but it seems to be productive for several users :)

What you need to take away from the above is - don't waste your money retrofitting or trying to retrofit smart gate, you can do everything it offers for a fraction of the cost (and without needing a dealer fit).

Which Bluetooth OBD2 widget did you buy to use with it?

Got a link to the one you bought? Will be useful to know exactly which one you bought as it clearly works - and there's a lot of unreliable crap on eBay when it comes to wireless OBD2 interfaces.

I have the iobd2 app  and obd scanner, both tell me about the car and its data (nice displays and I can reset issues) but this Carista lets you change a few of the settings in the car :)

Is your Rapid hatchback or spaceback?

I've bought the adapter off eBay and it does read with/work with other apps but I can't tweak with Carista (reads fine for diagnostic though ).

Mine's a hatchback so just wanting to know if there's anyway difference.

Maybe a pic of your adapter would be easier to know which one we need.

Wiring and OBD2 port are the same across both cars, so it's more likely you bought an incompatible reader widget.

JonBRapid - we've asked before - can you please provide a link to the actual OBD2 reader widget you bought, as your one seems to work with the software.

If someone did the retrofit already or have SmartGate already in the car, would you do something for me please? I'm planning to make SmartGate available for Octavia 2 (or any PQ35-based car as well). I need some logs of WiFi communication. Skoda made a promise to release SmartGate api for public, but don't know when it will be. To capture wlan packets it's necessary to install tPacketCapture app on your android based phone. No need to root the phone. I'm going to use Raspberry PI with CANBUS board to simulate SmartGate.  I need PCAP file containing traffic between phone and the car.  Thanks in advance.

Hey fellas, I've got my Carista working!

I asked Carista directly where their development team bought theirs from and here is a quote from the email:

"For example, we got one of these from seller "YES MY GADGET" and it seems to work fine: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KTU9ER6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"

There is one feedback specifically saying it didn't work with the app but I can say he must've been unlucky with a bad one.

I'll be leaving a feedback later.

The pro app costs £15.90 but it's much cheaper than having a dealer or buy a VCDS to do it.

Cool! I've ordered what should be a compatible widget, so as soon as it arrives I'll get the software and give it a try.
