headlight problem!

Featured Replies

I have changed the bulbs on my octy the other day. Since removing the drivers side unit I cannot get it to go back in flush like it was before removal. The gap from top of bumper to the lower part of light is much greater than the passenger side which is sitting where it's supposed to. Any ideas what causes this or where I'm going wrong? I've tried every which way to get it to sit right.

It sounds like something has not aligned correctly. whenever I had changed bulbs on my Mk2's the headlamp unit slide in easily and located in position ok.

I had this problem when I first put my headlights back in.

I can only assume that it wasn't sat in the sliding plastic rail properly, as I pulled it out and slid it in carefully and it went back in fine.

I had the same problem when I replaced my headlight bulbs. I found that the release mechanism was quite stiff and had probably never been used before. The car is a coming up to nine years old after all.

I gave the mechanism a liberal spraying with GT85 teflon spray (can be bought from cycle shops or Halfords) which freed the mechanism up considerably and enabled the headlight unit to be reseated without further problem.

Hope this help.

I had the same issue when I first had a headlight bulb blow several years ago. the latch mechanism wasn't opening fully so the locating pin/lug on the bottom of the head light unit kept riding up over the latch... I sprayed the latch mechanism with Unilease (Unicorn lubricating/penetrant product available from most auto spares retailers or on-line.....there are several similar products by other manufacturers but Unilease was freely available from stores at work 'Ahem' o:-) ) and worked it open and closed without the light unit fitted several times until it moved freely.... I then coated the locating lug/pin on the bottom of the head light unit with petroleum jelly (also known as Vaseline and freely available from stores at work .. tee-hee) and refitted without any problems.... changed several bulbs since all without any problems....

don't ask me for any, I don't work there anymore LOL
