Silence tail gate beeps on 2014 L&K?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I picked up my new toy yesterday, a 4 month old 2.0 170 DSG 4x4 L&K Estate.  Really happy with it except the stupid beeps when you open the tailgate.  I often get home in the middle of the night, or go out early in the mornings and I don't think the neighbors are going to like the sound of a truck reversing each time I open the boot to get stuff in or out.

I've seen an old thread about turning them off in VCDS, but I'm not sure that is still valid for a recent car?  I don't have VCDS, so would be looking for a local member willing to give it a go for a beer or four.

My 'beeps' only work when I open the boot from the inside I think....it's a safety feature. When I open from outside the beeps do not go off (but I'll check that). I have seen threads on here showing that you can turn off this alarm noise via the VCDS.

Can be done with VCDS no problem.

One this very forum you have a nice tutorial HERE , or alternatively see HERE (in German) for another way. You want to disable both "Warning tone when closing using interior button or key" and "Warning tone when opening using interior button or key".

Also be sure to enable closing using the keyfob and the interior button...right now you can only close the tailgate using the button on the tailgate itself. When doing this mod, you can open and close the tailgate using the keyfob AND the interior button...so much easier, especially when you drop someone off somewhere, and they walk off without closing the tailgate...no need to get out of the car anymore!

Tutorial for that HERE and HERE

One remark; In order to do the tailgate closing mod, you need to enter a security code to access the controller. I had 2 mates try, using a Chinese clone VCDS cable, and couldn't get it to work...I found someone with genuine Rosstech VCDS, and it was done in 5 minutes...so make sure you try this with a genuine cable, because it won't work otherwise I'm afraid!

HERE another list of possible VCDS options, again in German, or HERE a very comprehensive list on this forum...

1. ALWAYS get an "auto-scan" of the ENTIRE car's modules so you can go back to default settings if you mess something up!

2. Just because someone on the internet sais you can, doesn't mean YOU can. Every car is different, some options are universal, but it depends very much on which modules you have, what week your car was built, etc.

If you scoot over to Belgium I'd be happy to help! :D

On mine the beeps are there when opened via key fob or internal button by gear stick, when you press the actual tail gate button its quiet.

I had the same thoughts as you originally about turning them off - but after I neally took my eye out on a Volvo auto tail gate that did not have any audible warning when opening I now consider them more of a benifit than a curse. Have to say was surprised the Volvo didn't have the beeps being all safety orientated.

I have removed the sound, and I dont miss it...

It's the one thing that bugs me about my super dooper berb, definitely getting muted when I'm next home.
