Handbrake problem

Featured Replies

I've noticed today that the handbrake seems to now be coming up quite high compared to how it used to be.... I've also noticed that it only does this when the footbrake is applied. If i apply the handbrake without the footbrake on it only comes up about three or four notches but as soon as you apply the footbrake it can come up another two or three notches and if you apply it when the footbrake is on it comes up around seven or so notches in the first place.

Any ideas what this is??? Is it something that would be covered by the Skoda extended warranty? It goes in to the dealers tomorrow for it's DSG oil & filter change so is it worth mentioning then or something for me to get done elsewhere?

They should adjust it FOC - five min job once it's on the ramp?

I was hoping it would just be an adjustment etc... The fact it's different when you put the handbrake on with & without the footbrake pressed threw me though. I'll mention it when i drop it off tomorrow morning.

The footbrake is operating the same piston in the rear caliper as the handbrake does, so when you've done most of the work already with the footbrake it's no surprise that the handbrake, if you apply the same force as usual, will be able to move further. Though I haven't noticed as big a difference between handbrake only and handbrake and footbrake together. Then again I usually have the footbrake on already when I am using the handbrake, almost none of my usual parking spots is on level ground.
