paragon cloth question - split from def wax thread

Featured Replies

To avoid taking Ste's Def wax topic too far off piste, I'll re-start here. Original post about the a drying towel (or one of them)

Product:

Adam's Big Yellow Drying Towel

Reason:

A superb advance in drying towels - compact and easy to use.

Sucks up the water easily and works especially well using "pat-dry" method.....ie. no dragging or movement required.

So good - i just ordered another one....

Buy here:-

question from me....

Thought that big yellow looked familiar. Haven't used either so can't say for certain but looks very similar from my phone and the specs. Good few quid cheaper too.

replies....

It's not the same & sorry for all the off topic posts.

Would love to know how you know for certain as I didnt think you had used any paragon cloths, not looking for an argument just curious. Same weight, colour, poly/poly split & denier split, even similar write ups. If they arent the same then one is a pretty shameless copy.

Coincidence maybe. but while looking on the prestige site it looks like all the mf options listed have identical products listed on paragon, ie the plush blue towel only available in dark blue on both, the mf bonnets, the glass cloth in green on prestige also available in that colour from paragon. And as paragon do own label goods it doesn't seem outrageous that they could be the supplier.

And just to clarify I have no axe to grind, nor affiliation with Paragon

Looks good

Interesting to see how soft it is

Are you buying one?

I need to get some sports towels soon and paragon seem to be well priced, so might pick up a few cloths including one of these to reduce the delivery charge hit. Brassic at the mo though lol, just bought a pushbike.

  • Hey Guys, Paragon sell on under own label to a few places I know of and certainly many more. When I ran the group buy on these I seriously consider going for a big bulk order and just selling these

Well done mate, glad to see some common sense. Prestige Car Care big yellow has demoted my Wooly Mammoth into the reserve drying towel box.

Speak to Jeffrey at Prestige Car Care re the Big Yellow, he will explain that it's one of his designs that was in development for a while & was initially designed for the Marine industry. I'm not here to argue either, I love this site & most of the threads/posts are very informative. Here to help, not hinder.

I dont doubt you and he are telling the truth, but you wouldnt expect a man to tell you a cheaper place to buy the same product cheaper, or a cheaper knockoff for that matter. Also the writeup is very similar on both sites, marine background etc, and someone has to make it, regardless of who designed it.

If I end up putting an order in and have a few notes spare I'll order an extra one and send it down to ben(BTS) to see how they compare to a bona fide big yellow. He helped me out a while back with some wheel cleaner and I'd love to sort him out with something in return.

Fair enough, can't argue with that

Good find Simon - Paragon stuff is very good quality indeed.

Next time i'm re-ordering MF's from them - i'll look at these...

...then compare in the flesh.

Thanks for sharing....

This is very interesting. Looking forward to the findings.

Me too, I suppose Prestige could have employed Paragon to develop the towels for them. Let's face it there are plenty of re-branded products about. Either way they are very good.

Definitely NM. They can't all be experts at everything. Whai it does give the guys at prestige is an excellent and full line up. Laff82 is completely right, they cannot turn around and say, "We get them from paragon, where you can get them cheaper. Take a look at their website". I've got no issues with that. It's a great find by laff82 (sorry, don't know your name bud).

Christ Ste, you dont hang around do you bud. I am going to feel guilty if it is a cheap knockoff now :D.  Eager to see how you get on.

Thanks for the heads up on the cloth Simon....

My 'Paragon' one arrived today

Feels a little harsh..I shall see how it performs on Sunday..Weather permitting

I really cant see it being as safe to use as my Wooly Mammoths ( So soft and plush in compariason)

Its identical to that one in the picture above BTW

look forward to hearing how you get on.  Not sure how much of the forum you choose not to view, but that type of towel gets a lot of love.  Samuir has a paragon one on the way for side by side, so pretty soon we'll know whether it was a good heads up or terrible copy.

I'll let you know how I get on

Hmm looks a different colour & no scratchy stitching emblem on mine.

It does look a paler shade of yellow from Ste photo. I wouldn't be happy with the stitching either Bob.

Does the stitching go all the way through Chris? If it's only one side, it wouldn't be an issue really.

As I said. It's far yellower than in the picture

Stitching?

Don't know what you mean Neil

I suppose the conclusive test will be when Ste receives his and can do a proper side by side comparison of look, feel and performance.  The embroidery does seem like a daft idea I agree there, I wonder if they would sell without the embroidery without calling it a custom order.

If rather than being identical, the design of one towel has been, shall we say inspired by the other, the question for me then becomes how effective is it in its own right.

Stitching for the emblem mate. Have they just done the emblem through the top layer of MF or is it through the whole cloth?

Ah, missed that bit at the bottom of the picture.

Hey Simon - an update, as promised. Received my full Paragon order today.

I think it is the same towel fundamentally.

A little colour difference on the two samples i have.... could be batch related or fading.

Difficult to see this in the pictures.

Packaging is very similar too actually.

The two things i would point out..... Paragon have ruined it with the stitched logo/text.

The stitching affects both front and back surface of the cloth - so no avoiding it.

Also Prestigecarcareshop do add an outer label with care instructions.

Other than that - you are good to go and save some cash....

PS: i will detail our cars tomorrow if possible - so will do the final test - but convinced its the same.
