asz 130 engine needed after turbo blew :(

Featured Replies

So my turbo blew this morning (just 3 days before my new one from xman is arriving).

I was hoping the turbo was the only problem but looks like it has damaged the engine too :( the oil looks very clear (fuel contamination?) and when started (turbo off) it clatters and throws loads of blue smoke out so I think it's had it.

so I'm after a replacement 130 ASZ engine if anyone has one or knows of one please let me know, I'm in King's Lynn, Norfolk so one local would be perfect but I know it's a long shot

Thanks

Ryan

Suggestion, check-out what damage, (if any) first..hopefully minimal carnage to engine.

Doesn't necessarily mean engine damage mate, can you take turbo/head off?

i got full car breaking 05 plate most parts available atm pm me postage available anywhere uk mainland

The turbo is off along with all the pipework etc. I blocked off oil feed for turbo and started it (after I topped up with oil) and it makes a hell of a racket/knocking and pumps out loads of blue smoke. Plus when it happened I looked under the bonnet and the engine had forced oil out from round the filler cap and out the breather pipe. however I'm not sure what this means or if it's normal when a turbo goes?

I'm reluctant to take the head off simply because I've never done it before

Sounds pretty normal for pushing oil out.

Hard to tell for the smoke issue, but remember you have no exhaust manifold on what so ever so will be rather loud anyway!

That's a bit of a relief to hear.

Tomorrow I'm going to drop the sump to get rid of any remaining turbo fragments. What should I look for on the bottom end while I'm there? If anything

Thanks for all your advice

It's greatly appreciated :)

Nothing.

Turbo fragments can't get into the sump unless you have a big hole in a piston.

Oh ok, I won't bother now then. Thanks :)

As said, nothing will be in the sump, if anything at all, it might be stuck in the top of the piston/cylinder head and make a tapping noise every time the piston goes up and down.

Go to a local parts place or euro car parts, get a 5L bottle of brake cleaner.

Remove the pipework and intercooler, only takes a few minutes really, clean them all out.

Get a second hand turbo, fit it with the top boost pipe off so any other pieces of turbo won't get sucked in, Rev it up a little and see how she goes.

The only time I've had an engine completely fail is when a turbo has failed and started to run on the engine oil.

Ok thanks mate, I've already started cleaning all the pipework out. They were absolutely full of oil in fact there was more sat in the pipes than there was left in the engine, I've got an old turbo so Ill see if I can get it back together and might stick that on and see how it goes.

do you have any idea why the engine oil would now be very transparent and runny?

You possibly have a failed / leaking injector and that's what's caused the turbo to fail in the first place.

Does the oil smell very diesely?

Hard to tell I suppose, can't think of any other reason.

thanks, I'll have to check them too then

It smelt a little diesely but mostly just smelt of hot oil at the time

Let it cool down and check then, it should thicken right up and go kinda like syrup if it's pure oil. If it's got diesel in it will stay quite runny.

Yeh it definitely wasn't the correct consistency and way too clear. I'll double check it again tomorrow
