What extras should i take?

Featured Replies

Hey,

Can you give me some feedback for these extras i have chosen below. What do you think is good and what is pointless, every opinion is welcome.

1) Front assistant

2) Driver fatigue sensor

3) Acoustic rear and front parking sensors

4) Smartgate

5) Panoramic Sunroof

Thank you in advance!

1. Mostly useless, in some cases may save some pennies and this is the only reason why I have it ordered.

2. Useless. Can probably be later switched on with VCDS.

3. Makes sense - I have it as well.

4. Useless - when connected to SmartCard you have no Internet access in your smartphone.

5. Depends... For my wife it was a must, I don't like it.

1 - why? - you should be paying attention when driving so have no need for it

2 - see (1) above

3 - can see the point but I've never needed them in nearly 30 years of driving

4 - don't see the point

5 - might be nice but it'll make the car hellish hot in summer

You are in Estonia so that maybe makes some difference to what you want in the way of roof, wheels etc.

And its now 2015 in Estonia,

so it has probably little to do with what cars / drivers have had for the past 3 decades in the UK.

I think the difference isnt very big.

Thanks for the feedback, it is really helpful.

1. Agree with pab567 there - it's really a monitor for your driving and lapses in attention- difficult to maintain total attention in a lot of city driving- sometimes too many things to watch for - with so many other unpredictable drivers out there.

Which is my hope for Front Assist - and why I ordered it!!

2. Agreed with both previous posters - a bit like drink-driving- if you're not able to drive you shouldn't be behind the wheel. (I ordered a Combi so I can have a snooze in the back :-) )

3. Parking sensors ? Front ones a bit OTT on such a small car - like - the front is just ...there - just over an arms length away. Back ones - standard on Style version in IRL, might be useful in lot of city parking and multi-storey car parks ? I'll still prob get a reversing lens for rear window - which I have on Passat Estate. Very useful.

4. Smart gate, by all accounts, seems of limited use - like something you'd look at once - say "that's interesting " - and never use it again.

5. Roof looks nice - of more benefit to your passengers than driver. I balked on the huge price, and passed on.

A real personal choice thing.

All best!

 1) Sure it isnt standard? (Here it is. Were in Volvo-land for gods sake! You cant even buy matches without a fire distinguisher to follow!)

2) see 1)

3) love them. But Im doing a LOT of city parking.

4) Youll probably find it amusing. For a week or two.

5) Really gave it a thought. I dont think heat will be anoying- youve got AC (?)- and a curtain. But I was afraid of stone chips and a cracked roof. Silly, probably. The light is delightful, a few of my collegues have a glass roof in their Peugeots.

Thank you in advance!

1) Standard on SEL.  It warns you when too close to a vehicle and preps the car for braking, but braking doesn't (or isn't supposed to) kick-in until near collision status - not sure how far away it is - I just need to go through the manual to see if I can switch it off temporarily, sometimes feel like my "auto-brakes" are kicking in..

2) I have a wife to nag me - she keeps me awake :)

3) Definite must.. they're very good and looks good on the Bolero.

4) got it, but not used it yet.

5) couldn't bear the thought of the roof getting damaged by a stone and having to fork out a lot of money for a replacement.  it will also send the climate control and AC into a frenzy in a hot summer.. so decided against it.

1. Can see some point to front assist, particularly if it works in bad weather like fog. Remember being stationary on a country road at temporary lights in heavy fog. A car came up behind me and realised to late I wasn't moving; fortunately they swerved to avoid a collision, however they hit a telegraph pole instead.

2. Gimmick to me and didn't see the point to it on our previous Octy III.

3. found useful on some cars where their design creates blind spots.

4. Not a piece of kit I would use, our mobile phone is little used and for nav I have a Garmin.

5. have the glass roof on the Spaceback and really like it.

Manual states - Front assist doesn't work well in Fog, Heavy Rain/Spray, Blizzard conditions..

A note, front parking sensors can be set off from a HGV passing too close to you on the motorway.. happened once or twice to me now..

Does front assist effect insurance premium?

I've heard it can save a few quid, then disable it on the cars computer.

Thereby voiding your insurance in the event of an accident.
