1.4 TSI DSG - Throttle Lag?

Featured Replies

Maybe I have yet to get used to it but I find the initial throttle curve to be rather 'flat'. I seem to be pushing the pedal for some distance before I notice any real engine response and then lots all of sudden! I have driven many Auto's and not noticed this before, even my wife's Rapid responds earlier and certainly more progressively smoother to the pedal resulting in a much smoother ride.

Can the curve be 'adjusted' ?

I have tried the Eco and Sport settings but the lag is still apparent.

This is really a question of geting used of it.

I had the same initial feelings, then I'm even surprised now that I felt that way.

I have the manual version & defo in sport the throttle is more "instant"......maybe try putting the DSG in sport also as the DSG settings & the "driving profile" settings are different

Thats the known issue with DSG being configured to economical in normal mode and too sporty in sport mode.

As above get a pedal box to get rid of the dead travel and tune the pedal to your liking.

Thanks for the replies, I did not know about the pedal box but it seems a bit expensive, but if it will do what I want then it may be worth it. Is the unit an easy DIY  'plug and Play' job?

I will continue with the dead travel and see if I get used to it, while I find out more about the DTUK products.

...or a vRS TSI

To be fair, even the vRS TSI changes up too quickly in Eco and normal modes but thrashes it in sport mode. Best bet if you want a controlled acceleration is to use the paddles and change gear yourself. DSG auto only comes into its own around town in the traffic. Manual mode on the paddles on an open country road is awesome.

I'm thinking of going down the TSI route next time but might have to bypass the vRS and get a Superb 3 280TSI when I chop in my O3. 32k miles until my 80k warranty runs out, so hopefully a few nearly new examples on the market by next summer!

Nobody is going to buy this version in the first place. :D Depreciation is huge.

Agreed, at £35k list plus options, they got to be less than £25k with less than 10k on the clock or may as well get a Jaag!

Yep plug'n'play bit of an auckward fitting position though, fully adjustable, 3 maps, 3 settings for each map, read the leaflet though because the colours aren't obvious as to which map is which.

here is a demo of it fitted to a S3
