Laser Brake Light?

Featured Replies

Would this be legal?

I'm not so sure but looks quite cool.

Im not sure either.

But i wouldnt imagine so.

Blinding drivers behind with lasers probably isnt the best idea lol.

EU type approved vehicles already come fitted with rear Fog Lights,

it is just that there are Drivers that do not know when the should and should not be illuminated. (on or off.)

Or even when Lights needing put on and displayed to front and rear.

I know there's laser headlights now but they work totally differently. That looks like a normal laser aimed at the ground.

Doubt it'd get EU approval TBH.

Facepalm me up Scotty.

I think this could be a great thing especially when it's getting dark or dark. Rather than a brake light, what about a distance marker for people traveling behind you, so they know if there to close or not. Ok it would need a bit more work but good be a good thing.

Exactly that, plus it'd need to move depending on your speed and conditions, then when you go over a bump or over a hill it'll blind people. Plus it looks ridiculous.

If they're thick enough to tailgate, i doubt theyd figure out what its for.

Probably just start some road rage.

All for £3.50 (converted from USD)

I doubt it.

I've spent more on valve caps in the past.

Looks a quality item though and just as Bugatti would screw to the rear and of one of their vehicles.

I've got a genuine Bentley numberplate light on the back of my Polo. Same part number as the VW one, and just as cheap (and crap) NOS on ebay.  It doesn't seem to radiate more expensive, classier light, to my slight disappointment. :'(

(Please don't tell me to put LEDs in there though, I won't, ever; they're all ridiculously rubbish at the job). :)

If you can't use your own eyes and brain to judge whether you're too close to the car in front, it's questionable whether you should be driving (whatever the conditions).

Well you best remove 90% of people who drive on the motorway everyday. We all know we should keep a distance but don't. If they make xenons move up and down and other gadgets change with speed then why couldn't they do it to this gadget. As I said above this would need a bit more R&D but still stand my original post that this could be a good idea once a bit more work is done.

I would dearly love to remove 90% of the motorists on the road, and all those sales-gimmick, overbright daft new lighting variants. :)

Edit: And thinking about what you say, it's not that those motorway tailgaters don't know that they're too close, it's that they don't care. I'm not sure what will change this, but I doubt a little line of red light on the road (or along the front of their car, more likely) will make much difference.

I didn't mean the 'you' of my original post personally, by the way. It may have been more prudent of me to say "if one can't use ones..."

Great product description.

"Car rainproof anti fog anti collision laser warning light laser anti rear fog lamp auto laser light"

Anti fog? Anti collision? Anti rear fog?

'Laser fog lamps; Let us in fog day, Rainy day more secure'.

:D

And you think a light pointing at the floor will stop these people driving too close why? People don't tailgate because they're not too sure if they are too close or not, they tailgate because they're pricks, a light at the floor (well, it'll be on their bonnet) isn't going to change that. Thankfully round here it's nowhere near 90% of drivers.

Yes they can make xenons move and that but they're not pointing directly at your face, so while they're a little annoying over bridges etc they don't blind you. It's no use having a light in the name of safety if each time you go over a dip in the road it blinds the car behind you.

Leds can be really good if you get the right ones.

Its the cheap crap ones that arent.

Somebodys said that before on here and did change their mind when i uploaded a pic of mine

Yep, LED's can't be that ineffective, VAG now fit them as standard to several of their models in the number plate lights...

aa69915d.jpg

They are there to illuminate the rear number plate,  but many now do shine white lights rearwards, very bright white and often blue/white

i see ones now that are as bright as reversing lights.

and as you are approaching cars from a distance you can wonder if it is some vehicle with sidelights or Daytime / Daylight Running lights until you are close enough to see red tail lights and white lights in the centre.

Sitting behind in traffic and maybe in rain it can be one thing to have Brake Lights shining at you as the driver keeps the foot on the brake for long stops. without also having 2 bright white lights facing towards you.

Was there ever something wrong with just lighting up the Yellow Reflective Number Plate?

George sums up the problems with aftermarket led installations excellently. That's what I was referring to, not leds in purpose-designed housings, which can of course be fine, and energy-saving.

Thats the thing. Youve got to get ones that are bright enough to work efficiently but not too bright as to cause problems.

Sort of like oem incandescent ones, but with a nicer, classier white output.

I would get a picture and put it up, but id obviously have to put my numberplate in it lol

Ok, maybe you didn't spot that I was kidding about wanting or expecting different light from my Bentley unit. :)

I just found it gently entertaining that some Bentley model somewhere has the same plate lighting arrangement as a few million little Polos.

When I called it crap I was referring to its cheap and cheerful construction, not its plate lighting skill.

Oh no, now look what I've done...

Back to dodgy chinese laser lights, quick!
