Best kept detailing secrets

Featured Replies

Was prompted by a comment about Fusso 99 being a great value for money lsp, its certainly in vogue at the moment

What other , perhaps less well known and in particular good value and easy to use products do you use ?

I'll start

My go-to polish for hand use is Ceramishield Professional Liquid Gold , its an all-in-one polish/glaze/wax but I always give it a coat of protection anyhow , super easy to use and great results, not chalky and wont mark plastics , not easy to get hold of though about £15 for a 300ml bottle if you can find it

Next a wax -  Mothers Carnauba the step 3 one , £25 for a huge tin its high in natural carnauba as high as some of the premium products that cost many times as much, lasts ages and gives a really deep long lasting gloss especially good on dark colours you can find it on ebay

Finally Rimwax , I have a pot thats lasted 5 years at least , there are many excellent wheel lsp's on the market but this beats them all on price and lasts ages

I'm a masive fan of VFM products

Power Maxed Quick Detailer...love it...I have 6 litres of it..and 10 litres of their TFR and 10 of their Prewash and Wax

Autosmart Cire Spray wax..I have 5 litres of it...superb as a wax topper/QD

Autosmart Tardis..I have 5 litres of it..Great value and the best IMO

I really dont believe there are any secrets in detailing - per say...

The key is in the knowledge of the detailer and actual techniques and routine applied.

The products used are personal preference and suited to your particular regime

But as we know.... each to their own... what works for some, doesnt necessarily work for another  ;)

Autosmart Cherry Glaze. Super quick, easy buff off, pretty handy on tar spots and surface blemishes. Great after a quick wash and as part of a more detailed plan, ideal by hand.

Slightly off topic, but what does a glaze so that a polish or wax doesn't? should you glaze after a polish and before a wax? If so why?

Increases gloss usually

Glaze after polish before wax.

As Rich says, increases gloss, but also some have a filling ability to hide swirls

Ahh, thank you both! I assume you can use before a sealant too?

Yes it's always best to add a protection coat after a glaze although some claim to include that in the product but it's rarely long lasting

Cheers. Sorry for the tangent. Please return to on topic discussions!

Smooth peanut butter on plastic trims. :D although I prefer to use solution finish which is more well known but a lot more expensive.

Ill add to that Jason:

AB Hellshine Abyss Sealant on Plastic Trim...Lasts really well too

Autosmart trim ultra you need :)

coconut oil works as well , in fact so does engine oil :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Linseed wax i use, like what you use on cricket bats

Colline 476s. Not so much of a secret just pure value for money awesomeness.

Mine has to be not telling swmbo how much some of my stuff costs lol

I do have a bottle somewhere but admit that its a at least 3 years since I used it

As an AIO Polish, I prefer Carlack68

Autoglym Rapud Detailer, often overlooked because it's sold in Halfords & Autoglym isn't a posh name. Gives are great slick finish & also good as a drying aid.

Yes I've been using that a while now

In fact, it was the first QD I ever used

Don't dismiss the 99p jumbo sponge..good to cut up into pieces & use for tyre dressing, engine bay & trim dressings.

I used autoglym aqua wax recently, the first ever time i'd tried any QD or drying aid.  I was bowled over by it, made drying the car incredibly easy, gave a super shine too.
