tips for bringing insurance down if any

Featured Replies

Just want legal tips please.

daughter 23 passed test about 2or 3 yrs ago, but never been on any insurance too much to put her on my car and too big for her to drive anyway,

So going to have to bite bullet and insure in her own name and then built up ncb.

I believe if I go down as named driver, which will be 50/50 share can lower premium, do I have to live at same address though?

do them plus pass courses help or not?

Hi,

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back to discuss the various options available to get you the best deal.

Regards,

Dan.

Adding an experienced driver does indeed help, sometimes a female driver has more effect than a male driver. It doesn't matter about the address.

Pass Plus does hold value with some insurers but you can't beat ncb for bringing down the rates.

While there's a couple of insurers posting, do dash cams make any difference yet?

When I was 19-23 admiral/elephant/bell group were best for me. I added my parents onto the policy as well which brought it down. I'm with e sure now as they only look at claims history for past 3 years instead of usual 5 which saved me a lot of money

As your Daughter has not been driving so much even though she passed her test two or three years ago, I wonder if she is still classified as inexperienced ?

When my neighbours Daughter passed her test, she had the devil of a job to find insurance she could afford. They bought a small Renault about 1.2 litre, but some companies refused to insure her with that car as a "boy racer" had fitted non standard alloy wheels and tints to the windows... the tints were easy to remove and against my advice, the girls Mum Karen decided not to mention the wheels to any future companies she asked for quotes.

She eventually found insurance for £1500 but the company insisted that a monitoring device was fitted that would record speed ect ... also she was curfewed from 11pm to 7am for the first year... the price per annum was a great improvement from the average £2000 to £3000 other companies were quoting her.

It is possible for an inexperienced driver to obtain motor insurance, but their will be restrictions such as I mentioned for the first year, and a fairly basic model of a small car without modifications is I am afraid the order of the day.

weird I got prices for a citigo elegance and she was getting prices for a fabia 1.2 tsi and sport yet the fabia coming out better prices.

she really likes the monte carlo just for style really.

price range from £800 to highest atm £2200.

I would of though citigo cheaper?

im going to be a named driver on policy is it worth having more than one named driver.

In the main, no not yet. You may only find a handful of companies responding. Regardless of whether there's a specific discount for dash cams included in your quote call us and we'll be trying to beat whatever rate you get.

Mine already is with you. Just wondering if I'll get it cheaper now I'm filming ;)

Axa knocked £30 off when I ticked the dashcam fitted box that was about 7% off the premium on my 370z

how much to get a decent dash cam and fitted. suppose it all helps with people out there pulling infront of you and slamming brakes on

it ridiculous this no win fee claim culture.

I remember witnessing an accident where the older guy was trying to blame this poor young lad for accident, he launched over the bonnet and was nearly going to punch him, until he realised police where in traffic light queque behind.

One of them people who stand outside shops asking had a accident in last 3yrs give his his card, the older guy then started walking around with a limp, it was funny cos he kept changing it from one leg to the other, Honestly for how he just jumped over the bonnet to get to the other car he should of been in the olympics

I felt so sorry for the young lad in Yaris his car was wrote off and clearly in a state of shock.

Best check with the insurer which camera's they like if any. A decent camera might be more than the discount.

Having an older named driver does help.

After that you have to change postcode or she could get married ;)

I've been playing with the direct line app recently. It tracks your acceleration, braking etc using your phone - they say they'll give you a 15% discount for giving it a go. It's meant to be a 'tester' for their pay-for-how-you-insurance (DrivePlus). Might be worth a look along with the folks from the forum and others.

I remember when I got my first vRS Octavia, one quote was £11,000 for a car I'd paid £10,000 for! Lowest I managed was about £1,000 - but I was in my reasonably early 20's.

Sometimes its the car, my daughters first  car was a Ford Ka mk1, cheaper to insure as they are the least nicked car, also milage can play a part, if she does under 3k tell them. I added her to my multi car policy with Aviva and then come renewal time, they gave her a years no claims discount come renewal time even though it had been just over 7 months , we asked the insurers about this. She has now had insurance for four years and her own policy at her house as she moved out, though  her re quote  was silly. Shes now with Hastings and 749 with a Fiat 500 pop

Sounds like she needs to get a quote from us - £749 with 4 years NCB on a Fiat 500 seems high.

Its Idle in Bradford, not a good postcode, does include breakdown cover

Wonder what portion of the premium the BD cover is. Our Breakdown cover is £59.50 so that leaves a bit for premium shaving I would think. As long as it's not parked on the road overnight we can look at it for her when the time comes.

Good luck if you actually take it out. I added my 17year old the day he passed his test and opted for the box to reduce the increase (half way through year so stuck for a while).

It was supposed to be delivered within 2 weeks, fitted within 4. That was over a month ago - we've still not got the box yet. I'vechased them twice so far.

Still, I suppose at least the lad now has a month's experience......
