alloy centre caps

Featured Replies

My octavia vrs was registered in january 2015 . The centre caps are starting to corrode already . anyone else had this problem ? Is it a warranty claim ? Thanks

Yes, take it back to the dealer they are covered under the warranty.

Four months!  :o

That's certainly a "not fit for purpose" complaint

Definitely back to the dealer, and tell them if it happens again you'll be back, and again and again.

Apparently the wheels also suffer the same fate, the lacquer lifting and the alloy starts to corrode (anthracite Gemini's), I'll be keeping a close eye on mine to say the least.

Yep, I started a thread a couple of pages back, seems like a fairly common issue.

Back to the stealer....

Pretty sure I've seen no reports of that on here, yes there are certain users who've had other diamond cut alloys corrode and are adamant they all do but I suspect they've mistreated there's.

Mines done 30k now in 19 months and the alloys are in perfect condition, although the centre caps are corroding.

My brothers 2010 Golf GTD had diamond cut alloys and now on 70k with no corrosion at all but the VW are corroded.

I hope your right.

Mine are coming off this week so I can fit spacers, and at the same time they're getting a couple of coats of detailing wheel wax/sealer to help protect them.

I don't recall any threads on here either with the O3 wheels corroding.

Just rather par of the course with diamond cut and lacquered wheels.....not really much different to how hot brake dust eventually pits the lacquer on painted wheels.

Over time the lacquer wants to lift away from the polished metal surface...also any kind of stonechip/kerbing damage is normally enough to set the wheels in motion (no pun intended).

I had a Fabia vRS with diamond cut wheels....after about 9 months they started showing signs of spider web effect (where the lacquer starts pulling away from the surface)....all four wheels too. They were replaced without argument under warranty and similarly 9 months later the new set had begun to do the same.

I am sure if you are meticulous about your car, wax and seal the wheels and keep it garaged then it will delay any issues but it will happen eventually.

The centre caps are just cheap ****e pressed plastic, every VW ans Skoda Ive had over the past few years (6 I believe) have had corroded centre caps after a few months. I just leave mine as you have to be staring closely at them to see it and it'll only do the samw a few months down the line if replaced.

I'm on my second set and have caked them in several coats of wax and will see how they go... I'm guessing much the same way as the first centre caps
