Vrs Help

Featured Replies

Im looking for a octavia vrs mark 2 up to about 5 years old,but after reading the thread on engine failures i have been a bit worried. Is it better to buy a later version such as a 2012? Im also a bit confused which year has the tfsi and tsi engines fitted and are they all chain driven after 2010?

Not sure if i am looking into it a bit too much which would be a shame as i really like the look of the cars i have seen

Thanks for any help

Earlier engines are TFSI and are belt driven, newer engines are TSI and are chain driven.

With the exception of the Ltd Edition which had the newer TSI unit,

Pre FL = TFSI

FL = TSI

Changeover was 2009 I believe.

Thanks for the reply

Do you think i would be safe with a 2012 model or is it just pot luck?

Cheers

I think there have been more failures on the earlier face-lift's (09 & 10), but it's not unheard of on newer cars.

The thread at the top of the section will give you an idea, at the end of the day, only you can decide if the risk is acceptable or not.

The tensioner has been revised several times, so you could always have the newest revision fitted if budget allows for piece of mind.

Or buy a car with a completely new engine with 2 yrs warranty....and latest chain & tensioners etc.

;)

For what it is worth I wouldnt let it put you off. You could ask for a revised part to be swapped in as part of the deal or if buying privately then use it as a tool to get the price down.

Still unconvinced that this is as big an issue as some people will have you believe. I have had nothing but pleasure from driving mine.

my first vRS (and early facelift car ~ Feb 2010) failed at about 75k miles sometime around august-ish 2012.

my current vRS (Dec 2012) now has similar miles and has been trouble free.

Failure rate is low, don't let the internet put you off buying - if you're really worried then fit the later tensioner.

I am intending on selling mine in April next year as I'm desperate to get back in to a dsg however I've seen a one for sale now that ticks most boxes and have already began dreaming and have considered advertising mine early.

Its a 10 plate in blue with a brand new engine with the latest tensioners fitted in April last year which has only done 8k (car has done 39k). Serviced and mot'd a few weeks ago at Skoda, 7 months transferable warranty left and next MOT and service pre paid. Lovely condition, having wheels refurbished on Tuesday to restore to former glory.

Let me know if you would be interested and I'll send you full details and pic's. Would be looking at a minimum of £10k though.

Well, what a funny old week this has been. Lee popped in to see me last Sunday and gave my car the once over. It was filthy but saw enough to convince him that it was the right car for him.

As I had the wheels booked in for a refurb on Tuesday, Lee paid a small deposit to cover the refurb and choose the colour, OEM silver which look great. I also agreed to repaint the spoiler as it was showing signs of delamination.

Lee collected the car this morning and I was sad to see it go. It does free up the cash for me to pick up a dsg although the one that initially caught my eye was an absolute dog. Shame I had to waste a day and a 200 mile round trip to find out.

Anyway, I have told Lee what an amazing forum this is and hope he remains an active member!

What a happy ending well done to both of you.
