tyre pressures..

Featured Replies

I have listened to a few comments about tyre pressures, I run 2.5 bar all roud which is the recomended pressure for fast driving , my tyre wear has been good (no more or less in centre compaired to edge) ....

my tyre "place" has just put my two new new RSR's on the front and put 2 bar in....

some people advocate running less pressure at the track (I know my vRS creates some massive heat in the front tyres) as the air will expand and increase the pressure...

as an experiment, do you think I should leave 2 bar in, and see what its like at the national meet? (and maybe reduce the rears to 2 bar ?)

input appreciated, ta!

Seems you've answered your own question.

I personally can't see how high tyre pressures are conducive to fast driving. Someone will be along to correct me, though.

I run around 26 - 28psi in the fronts of mine (cold pressure) and after a session they are always upto around 40 - 42psi.

Once hot I drop the pressure to approx 30psi and they usually remain stable then (although do seem flat after a long period in the pits as they cool right down).

Personally I don't think you should leave them low for the road,

Just drop them to around 30psi when properly hot at Rockingham, and see how they feel.

You might even want to go a bit lower if 30psi is after a cooling down lap.

I found at Blyton after the first time out they had gone up to 40 psi.

May be worth taking a digital pressure gauge with you Dave to monitor them

Yes my Yeti fronts were 42 after a cooling down lap at How Fast.

I did reduce them for the timed laps but after Silverstone clearly found out it wasn't enough.

Would go lower next time.

Yes I reduced mine to 30 while they were still hot.

Yes I reduced mine to 30 while they were still hot.

Allowing for the fact that mind were 30 at Silverstone after a cooling down lap I plan to go lower next time and see how it alters the grip/handling.

I figure 26-28 somewhere is right for 30 when on it.

I'll probably need to do the same. My track tyres are a soft compound, so get warm pretty quickly

Last time at the track I dropped pressures to 30 psi (2bar) all-round prior setting off. Silly me, being there for the first time and getting all excited in the way I forgot to check what the pressures rose to after a few hot laps, but that's how they looked once the day was over (just the fronts), I think the edges looked quite beaten? (they were almost brand new before the track day)

Do the photos above indicate maybe too low/too high a pressure or other worrying situations? Going again tomorrow so any feedback has to be sent before 1pm!

Cheers

30psi is too high, once you've done some fast laps you could be seeing pressures of 36-40psi in the fronts.

Do a few hot laps, come in and check them.

You want about road pressure in them, after they are hot.

I left mine at 2 bar for Rockingham and the outsides are destroyed, that was only with the little 60 horse Fabia. I left them the same at Snetterton because the wet track was giving no heat to change them by much if any and didn't put any wear on the tyres all day. We'll see what happens at Bedford with the Octy...
