Its not about actual speed

Featured Replies

a regular diesel don't d it for me really, octygone you haven't performed a fair test anyway as your comparing 2xtuned PD130's to a standard 1.8T. drive a re-mapped 1.8T for a real comparison

Has to be any old Mini with a big bore center exit exhaust. Next would be a MK1 1600cc Golf GTI the only real one.

my uncle had a smart car,had it on the limiter on some of the roads up by glencoe.felt scary and bloody rapid(until a volvo 850 T5-R overtook us and fired off into the distance)

can agree about the smart car .As some of you may know in our household we have the fabia vrs (speed and oomph)

David has the smart roadster ( not quite so fast but boy is it fun to be taken out in) need to drive it myself , but havent yet got the nerve (flappy paddle things)

Phillip has very old jetta which he loves when it works properly

And then there is my little smartie. Always driven HARD what fun!!!!!True enjoyment is the concept of speed not the actual speed. :D

My parents had a Range Rover with the 3.9 V8 lump under the bonnet. Not the fastest car in the world but by god was it exciting and somewhat scary at high speed.

In my Yoot i had a V6 Essex powered Mk1 escort , no interior just 2 bucket seats and a steering wheel and cost a whopping

I think the most fun car I have driven for ages has got to be my twin brothers 1986 Golf GTI. It such a hoot to thrash about. Gets a bit breathless after 80, but the noise is great, handling is really predictable and it feels so nimble. Its much more fun to drive than the Furby.

But the noise becomes a drain and it can be tiring as there is no power steering, and gear changes need to be much more frequent.

For a daily driving car, I believe you can't beat the Fabia with devastating mid-range performance, refinement, comfort etc. But for a weekend blast, I'll take the Golf, thanks.

Not all about speed - try taking a Land Rover around an offroad course! A thrill a minute ;)

You don't need a really fast car for thrills. This is one of the most driver orientated cars I've ever owned!

1294cc, 100bhp, and 810kg standard, and after a few tweeks I was looking at 130bhp per tonne!:thumbup:

Couldn't this thing handle...:bowdown1:

I'd love a seriously stripped out pocket rocket! A 106 Rallye fits the bill nicely! Must be such a great laugh!

A great laugh indeed, amazing balance through the corners, would make an amateur look like a pro! Lift off oversteer aplenty...:)

Wasn't that slow either hitting 60 in about 8 seconds!

If you want to save a bit of cash though, go for a tidy AX GT, I've had three of the things, there manically fun!!

I soooo nearly bought a black AXGT - but it was just a little to rotton for my liking.

Would indeed be a great hoot though! :rubchin:

Here's my little lot... would still have another, after nearly dieing in the third!

Wondering if this is why I was disappointed with a mates porsche.Just did not 'feel' fast (and yes' date='I floored it!).It is also probably the reason for people raving about the smart roadster.Figures suggest slow as a dog yet people seem to have great fun.

Was it a Boxster or 911?

I've driven 2 boxsters and 2 996 Carreras and I must agree with you that they don't feel that fast unless you are ringing out it's neck i.e. above 5k revs. The std. Boxster actually isn't that quick and the relative lack of torque can give the impression of it being a bit flat.

This was the reason why I decided to stick with my M3 at the time.

Hit the nail on the head, although I like the way my Golf constantly batters the senses, but I agree with everything you said.

I have a Smart Roadster Coupe. It is chipped to 115PS, 700kg, rear wheel drive and rear engine. Yup, don't need alot of power for a bit of fun. I plan on turning it into a dedicated N'Ring car. If I rip everything out, I could get down to about 600kg (if it wasn't for the weak semi-auto transmission).
