Adding a Dixie horn

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I plan to add a Dixie horn to my 2004 fabia classic. The plan is to mount it where the spare wheel is Meant to go and what I was wondering is, is there anywhere in the boot I can use for powering it? I will add a switch and run cables to it but I was wondering if there was anywhere in the boot that would power it to save going through the firewall and adding a fuse

Thanks

James

Just why?

Just why?

To attract Catherine Bachs?

Presumably for show use only?

totally illegal on the road

Do it! I would be tempted to fit one on the Pulsar just for a laugh. Illegal lol, whats the world coming too.

Have you ever played "syndicate wars".... That's probably the ultimate answer. :)

Nah I'm afraid I haven't. But I now know what you mean by it and i wouldn't disagree.

Musical horns are illegal if used by cars on the road that have been made since 1973.

I've had dixies before on two of my Rovers. I always ran a dedicated fused power feed to them via a relay straight from the battery. The compressor for them is quite large and draws a fair amount of current so I wouldn't want to tap them into an existing circuit. I always mounted them up front but I know it's a bit tight up the front end of a Fabia compared to an old Rover :D

Could you not place the horns in the void in front of the radiator?

Would solve your wiring feed and relays positioning..

On a Classic (presumed non-turbo) there's a void space at the front of the RHF wheel arch that is fairly weather-proof and will take a musical airhorn. You could even fit a manual interuptor switch in the engine bay to take care of the over-done legal aspect.

Over-done?

No harm in pointing it out is there?

It's like number plates, people are still of the mind that if someone sells something they must be legal

I had a Stiebel air horn in my prev octavia, & just took out the old ones & used the space.

This was legal as it was 99db :)

Single tone presumably?

Thanks for all the replies. Yea I know they're illegal but it will sound well just using it when arriving at places etc lol. I'm a country boy and work for different farmers so it would sound well there lol. Yea I'd thought about mounting it at the front but during MOT would they fail it for that?

Is 99db the legal limit?

Count how many people said a variation on "Musical horns are illegal" and nothing else. See what I mean now?

A musical horn says more about the person sounding it than words ever can.

Just wonderin, how many actual horns are there ? The last ones i saw had about 3-5.
