Phone Battery symbol in MFD query

Featured Replies

Have recently gone from Blackberry 9800 to HTC One M8s and all seems to be working great - rSap is fine with no disconects - fingers crossed!

The only query I have is that I occationally get the battery symbol displayed in the MFD and on Columbus but not all the time - its not an issue and I can live without it (it never showed with the Blackberry) but I just wonderd why sometimes its there and others its not.

I thought only Samsung phones supported rSAP

I thought only HFP supported the battery status?

Any Android phone can support rSAP using additional software. Phones, I know of, that support it "out of the box" are HTC M8, LG G2 and G3, Samsung Galaxy S3-5.

Can confirm HTC One M8s work fine

Any ideas on the battery sysmbol  - Whats HFP ?

HFP = Hands Free Profile. Similar to if you've ever used a bluetooth headset. Its a protocol that uses the phones radio but streams the call across bluetooth to a speaker. Premium bluetooth modules in VW allow connection of rSAP or HFP. iPhones can only connect via HFP (and the magic of Kool Aid)

I've just done a similar thing going from a Blackberry 8520 which when connected using 'Premium' connection didn't show the battery. If I set it to basic HFP the Blackbery battery did show.

Now I've got a Windows phone which doesn't seem to connect using 'Premium' so just basic hands free bluetooth, I do see the battery charge on the MFD.

I have set the car bluetooth to Premium for the Windows phone (Lumia 635 model) and I still see the battery and also get another phone symbol on the MFD which I haven't looked up yet, although as I mentioned the Lumia doesn't appear to be fully rSAP compatible, unless I've set something incorrectly set in the phone menu options.

Thanks everyone, as I see it HFP allows battery infomation symbol and rSap will not.

CNC - I think that other symbol may be a 'Media Player' (looks a bit like an iPod) mine too shows it now, never did with BB.
