New Estate questions - False floor, spare wheel, cycle rack

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Been a while since I was on here. I used to have a mk1 1.9 TDI PD 100 Elegance years ago. Great car. My brother also has a mk1 1.4 TDI bohemia that I helped him source. Both were estates

Anyway, my dad's looking at buying a new car for his retirement and he quite likes the fabia estates, so I'm just doing some research on his behalf.

He's not particularly bothered about toys or extras, so I think we will be looking at a 1.2 TSI 90 SE in Pacific Blue. He might opt for the 1.0 as long term reliability might be better on that(?)

The only thing he stipulated really was he wants to be able to put bikes in the back, and have a flat floor. Full size spare is also important. So my questions are;

Can you fit a full size spare in the boot, and have the factory cycle carrier?

Can you fit the flat 'false' floor and have the cycle carrier? In the brochure, it looks like the cycle carrier is attached to the floor underneath the false floor, so the false floor needs to be removed or possibly folded over to one side for access to the bikes.

Thanks

Gaz

Yes you can fit a full size spare wheel under the standard boot floor but it is an extra (cheaper as a factory order than buying from the dealer).  No idea on your other question though.

Great thanks. So the spare wheel well is full depth, and it doesn't impinge on the 'standard, low-level' boot floor?

There seems to be a serious limitation to wheel (26") and frame (19") size for bicycles carried with that rack, if the manual is right

Sizes means a Small MTB.

Demounting the front wheel I can carry my road bike inside the old mk2 hatch, though, so I guess its possible in the mk3 estate as well:-)

- even without the rack.

The false floor and cycle carrier were not available together when I ordered my car.

I wanted the false floor as I carry kite boards and with the seats down I wanted a flat floor.

Just taken delivery of a SE L Estate with the spare wheel as a factory order.

It is a “Space Saver” but not the same spec as the other 4 wheels. Therefor you are limited to 50 mph

Spare wheel is 185/60 R15 the others are 215/45 R16

Not sure if the same would apply to the S or SE
