has my dealer made a mistake????

Featured Replies

right ive had fabia vrs since april 11th.......just had the lube service done at 10,000 and checked the service manual i noticed they have ticked inspection aswell but no real work was done neways...it said the next time i need a service was either 20,000 miles or the 24/10/2006....

well what i thought was.. lube service at 10,000 then annual inspection done at 1 year old which would mean april 11 06.......

so has my dealer made a boo boo??

How much did you pay for the sevice?

...it said the next time i need a service was either 20' date='000 miles or the 24/10/2006....

My local dealer did the incorrect date thing with mine too. As I do about 20k a year, the servicing is mileage-based, not date-based anyway (much like you by the looks of things).

I wouldn't worry too much about it - as long as YOU bring it in at the right time, the date given in the schedule isn't relevant IMO...

Have to agree if you high mileage go by milage this means at the 10k intervals only specify an oil service not a 10k service. then once a year team up the 10/20k etc service with the annual inspection.

Its yearly or 10k, which ever comes first.

So after a year you've done 5k, you still require a full service :)

After 4 months you've done 10k, you still require the full service, not just lube.

NO NO NO!!!!!!!!! You require an annual service each year. So, if you do 20k miles a year, you don't need 2 annual services you only need 1. So, in this instance, you get a lube service done at 10k miles and defer the annual service to the 20k!!!

Am i the only one getting a strong feeling of deja-vu from this thread?

Nope ;)

you dont have to take your car to the dealer for its services now to keep ya warrenty you know! law changed this year. you will save a packet takin it somewhere else. you never know you might have a mate with access to a stamp and you could do the service yourself! ;)

IIRC, the law changed 2 or 3 years ago. It now states that the car must be serviced by a VAT-registered garage using genuine Skoda parts (and to the manufacturer's schedule) :D Whether Skoda would honour a warranty claim, or if they'd try and wriggle out of it is another matter!

Yes the law has changed, but this only applies to the Manufacturers warranty. If a portion of the 3 years is a dealer warranty, as they mostly all are, then you'll probably lose that part. Dealer warranties will invariably have the condition of servicing to schedule at a franchised dealer only. They do this to encourage you to stay loyal to the dealer network.

Skoda offer a 2 yr Manufacturers warranty with Skoda UK supplying the third year 60k miles extension if you buy a new car from them. If you get your car serviced outside of the dealer network in the first two years, I'll practically guarantee you'll lose the third years cover.

Plus when you look at the amount that you'd realistically save in that first three years it's only going to be a hundred quid or so and the loss of a main dealer service history will cost you that much at least when you come to sell on

I'm not getting involved!

I do 20,000 a year (2 services a year) and ive been having the services the dealer recomends!

Should i only have a lube service every 10,000 and a full service once a year?

Does this make sense - im very confussed

Yes :D

HTH, Chris

Cheers Chris, thats going to save me a packet!

If they offered the warrantee, I don't see how they can back out of it because you didn't bring your custom to them? Is it in the small print 'you must service with us for this extension'? If the manufacturers warranty is not affected by servicing elsewhere I don't see any legal grounds for Skoda UK to drop their warranty for something that obviously doesn't affect the car adversely.

Manufacturers are obliged by EU law to offer the warranty, the third year dealer extension from Skoda UK is a freebie offered by them to customers who buy a new car from them. The manufacturers also cannot insist you have to service the car with a franchised dealer, but they can insist that original parts are used.

As for the Skoda UK dealer warranty, if you want to keep your freebie you go by their rules, its as simple as that. Skoda UK offer the third year as a marketing tool on the same basis as other manufacturers. You can disacrd the warranty if you like as its cost you nothing, but most think the value of the warranty is the peace of mind it offers should anything go wrong.

Just to add though, the third year warranty is usually not as comprehensive as the manufacturers portion, there are usually some very important differing conditions as to what is and isn't covered. I suggest everyone goes and reads their warranty booklets to see what's what.

cheers for the replys. well not to cause an arguement but all i was asking was should i just stick to what my serivce booklet says or should i stick to the every 10,000 miles and annual..... i know it was only the lube service cos i specifically asked for it as the guy on the phone tried to book me in for the annual after 6 months???????? they didnt clean ma car after the service aswell grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

i cant really complain cos this certain dealer who i wont mention there name is very very mod friendly... he said that he is willing to carry out any warranty work no matter if ma car has been modded aslong as an INESPECTOR was down :thumbup:

An oil-change service is only required if the vehicle has covered 10,000 miles. If the Oil-change service preceeds the annual inspection by only a couple of months, it is recommended to have it carried out in combination with the annual inspection.

Does that help?
