vRS - performance improve with age?

Featured Replies

I just didn't fancy having to replace it on the road side like i did with my ZS when my head gasket blew in magnificent style. Having to swap the induction kit for the orriginal ait box was not fun with limited tools lol

perhaps i'll buy the filter' date=' if i can't tell any difference then i'll think about getting the intake changed.

is the green cotton one the best, or should i go K&N, pipercross?[/quote']

"If" you did go for the Intake and green filter (or K&N) all you need it a screw driver, which one should have in ones toll box which would be located in ones boot ;)

Oh and nice too see someone can search! :P

So how much more air can this fat pipe bring in? Is it significant?

If the intake and or filter are restrictive it will only efect max revs,if it efected low revs the restriction would be so bad as to not let it rev at all so to sum up lol it could help max revs but nothing else

The way to test it would be a vacuum gauge between filter and engine.........just thought of that one ;)

The improvement can be measured with VAG-COM by looking at the MAF air flow figures.

On the Fabia vRS the most noticeable improvement is in the high revs, proving your theory!

I guess i'm just a paranoid chap cos my worry was that the car was unders performing. Or perhap I'm expecting more than I should.

It all stemned from not really pulling away from a focus CMAX TDCi, but then it could have been a 2.0TDCi 140 which on paper is as quick as the fabia anyway.

I'm hoping that the engine is still a bit tight and hence making it struggle a bit at high revs, time will tell.

Just out of interest what rpm in 6th is 70mph on everyone else's vRS? mines just slightly over 2000rpm.

And does everyone have a stopper on the bottom of the accelerator pedal, it looks like a stopper ya get on hire cars but then as far as I know it's supposed to be there.

I got my new '05 VRS about a good three weeks ago and now with around 2500 miles on the clock the car is brilliant. It defo feels as fast as the test car I drove which had 7k miles on it. It still pulls at 4000rpm.... no green air filter or Seat air intake - just bog standard.

I was in Germany for my work and tried out the top speed and was shocked to see an indicated 140 mph (230km/hr) :D on the speedo on a slight downhill. I thought my speedo was off...

The car is also so flexible and responsive, from 1500 revs it gradually builds and builds.... and I never expected such a sensitive and quick to react throttle.

I keep hearing it 'will get even better at 10k miles' - am happy as it is though....

(edit) At 70mph I also do just over 2000rpm and have the stopper under the throttle pedal

Mine is getting better with the miles. It was still tight at 1500ish, but it's considerably loosened up now at 3500. It's quieter and is happily inclined to make a dash for the redline.

Most VW products tend to loosen up properly at 10k+. The engine in my previous VW Bora petrol was more responsive and felt quicker with 30k than 10k.

You Fabia boys should watch out for the Focus CMAX. They are pretty nimble and even have a FMIC as standard.

I wonder if they'd "have you in the twisties" too?

Could do, haven't seen a CMAX through the twisties yet to know, probably be evenly matched.

I miss my ZS for the twisties :( bout the only thing i miss about it though lol
