Fiesta ST owners

Featured Replies

Hope this is allowed on a Skoda forum

I have recently bought a brand new Fiesta ST; on reversing with nearly full lock either left or right, I get a bad crunching vibration sensation through the steering wheel and sometimes on a very slow forward full lock get a bit of a rumble almost like a CV joint type but not as harsh.

Now at 850 miles on the clock not thrashed it and it has done it since I selected reverse back home after collecting the car from up north.

Any other ST owners had this?

Local main dealer tested it yesterday in the car park and said there is something there but dont hold out much luck on finding anything :(

It is booked in for tomorrow but worried I will get fobbed off.

I have a 138k mile 1.4tdci Fiesta that drives without any cv joint sensations forward/backward better than the ST at low speeds!

If it is there and you know it is there and not just the new discs / pads not worn in yet, then you should just leave the car with them

until some trained Ford Technician does inspect it and road test it properly.

Not worth putting off if you know it is not all OK.

When the Ford technician drove it around the car park doing various slow manoeuvres he said it's not right but then said dont hold out much hope of finding anything when he has it in, it will probably get reported to Ford UK for advice on what to do. Not the most inspiring comments from a fully trained technician :(

'Fully', maybe...

No noises at all on mine that shouldn't be there.

Clearly got a problem.

Cheers

Its because its a ford.

Contrary to what Bogoby said, it's not.

Mine has done nearly 10k miles in a year and several track events with 100% reliability and no issues at all.

And I have given it a throughly good spanking on more than one occasion. :D

BO(60)BYS ;)

and i just personally don't like fords, i have had ago of the Focus RS (2012) and it took my me back how good of a car it was, and after stopping and looking around i couldn't help but think it doesn't feel like it performs, dont know if anyone els knows what i mean but it doesn't shout anything special to me.

As a drivers car it is awesome for the money just need to get this clunking/vibration issue sorted.

Yes the plastics etc are no where near VAG but what a pocket rocket and the mountune kit goes on in a couple of weeks too :)

If they could just sort out the interior and the feel of it then it would be a fantastic car but i guess they have to save money somewhere.

you got any OBD port security on yours?

I do wonder what people do in their cars sometimes.

The Fiesta is not as nice inside as the Octavia, but that is from the class above.

In the ST you get great seats, a nice steering wheel, handbrake, gear stick etc... and that is what you touch when driving.  It's functional and the important bits are good.

I've never been wizzing along in the ST, blipping the throttle while down changing for personal satisfaction and been thinking to myself "if only they'd used higher grade plastics in here".

It's a drivers car with better handling and balance than anything Skoda have managed to produce.  Ever.  At a sensible price.  For me, it's easy to see that they've spent the money exactly where it's needed for a hat hatch.

I know what you mean but like i said personal choice isn't it, if i was given one i would probably keep it but i wouldn't go out a buy one is what I'm saying :) Its quite funny to hear this coming from the guy who has a 500bhp yeti and a GTR right?

Caressing the plastics while finding the optimum position in which to lick the windows...

It is nice to drive simple cars that do what they say on the tin, and have no real complications for servicing and maintence. And no pointless frills. Now if Ford garages ensure the quality of the car delivered and the Fully Trained Staff in the Franchised Dealships, you are onto a winner. 5 door versions and also Powershift as an option would be nice...

Agreed.  Despite other cars with amazing performance I still love the ST because of the handling and balance.

I have no wish to turn my Fiesta up to more than the 215bhp it gets with the Mountune kit as it's just "right".

It really is a cracking little package.  The gearshift is a joy to use too.

IMO. :)

As George says, just a shame there isn't a 5 door version available here.

With an LSD as an option.  I suspect this isn't offered as it'll upstage the Focus though.

if you think that then you are missing the whole point of cars such as this; Its not about what they cost or how much power they produce. They are defined by the fact they make you feel good and the harder you drive them, the better they are, they do however provide great fun at everyday speeds also. I could have written Richards reply myself, it's spot on. It's a B segment car and is pretty average in most respects for the segment including interior quality. It is rather exceptional at the fun stuff however - grip, handling, balance and chuckability.

Edit - hope the op gets his sorted :)

I went from a really nice semi sporty Octavia vRS diesel to the ST for one reason.

I wanted to feel alive again!

As said I'm hitting 50 this year so having a bit of a crisis but my god what a great little crisis it is, the ST is so well sorted in all areas and I had the ST3 fully loaded to add a few toys but the main point was to drive and have a huge smile every time I get out at the other end :)

And for just over £17k otr fully loaded it just had to be done! Nothing out there can touch it in its class and at sensible money for the kit/performance.

Update..

Mr Ford technician has confirmed it rumbles seems like a tight CV joint..investigated said no obvious fault all seems ok apart from it rumbles in reverse on full lock..answer leave it and see if it frees its self up :(

Not happy with that, they have reported it to Ford UK and said if not better in a thousand miles on from now to take it back or if Ford get more complaints it may get looked into WTF.

Track day required. :D

Track day required. :D

Does the trackday effect warranty? only ever took bikes on the track?

Some say yes, some say no.

I say if you have warranty cover up your number plates. :D

Worth reading the BMW thread in this section on the knocked back warranty for the car on track, then the U turn and back track from BMW. UK when the Internet shows how they sell Track ready Ultimate Driving Machines that they launch at track days, give to journalists at Tracks, sell on, yet say a Track Day engine failure could void their warranty.

Now got in touch with a lady from Ford UK, she is trying to look into the reported fault to see if anything can be done.

It is so ludicrous to buy a brand new item have a technicians report saying possible "tight CV joint" or drive shaft fault but then to be told its not doing any damage, even though there is definitely a problem, soldier on.

Let's hope Ford UK do something.

If not where do you suggest from here anyone?

Also I know its my fault picking an awkward colour (molten orange) but my rear bumper is almost a totally different colour, is there any paint mismatch warranty? My OCD is doing overtime having a grinding vibration and a total mismatch on colour :(.
