Flashing glow plug light

Featured Replies

Came on my 2.0 tdi today but went off again once I pulled over and turned the engine of then back on again. any ideas what this is or should I just put it into dealer?

Thanks in advance

It is the DPF needing to do a regen and being interrupted. Go and do a good steady drive in 4th gear for at east 20 minutes and all will be well.

Thanks, that's what I thought it might have been and drove a good while maintaining revs at 2-3 k

The DPF has a separate warning light (page 22 of the manual).

From  the manual, If the warning light  begins to flash while driving, a fault exists in the engine control. The system allows the vehicle to run in emergency mode.

Seek help from a specialist garage.

You need to take the car to a dealer and let them have a look and see if any fault codes have been logged - I had it a lot on my 1.2TDI greenline Fabia, it kept blowing injectors.

I agree with Dempsek, a flashing glow plug light indicates an general error with the engine control system.

The only real way to know what the error was is to take the car to the dealer or to read thr fault codes with a OBD scantool.

Of course it could be an error related to the DPF but the DPF system has its own separate light to indicate when it is full, blocked or unable to regenerate.

Quite a common fault on the TDI seems to be the boost pressure sensor.

When mine failed, the glow-plug light was flashing for a short time on a couple of occaisons but then went out.

The engine ran fine during this time.

A week later, the glow-plug & MIL lamp came on & the engine was in limp-home.

Its probably better to get it checked now rather than wait for something to fail which will always be the time when you have to catch a flight, wedding or urgent appointment.

As with the last 2 answers, get the fault codes downloaded.

I had this warning light appear shortly before the stop / start system on the Leon decided to fail, so it can mean numerous things to do with engine / emissions control.
