Selling car - fix aircon or leave?

Agreed. If the car had aircon but it wasnt working, I wouldnt bother with it.

Same here, if the car has A/C I have always checked it works. To me if its not working, what else isnt working. The A/C still works perfectly on my 8 year old mondeo, and that has nearly 146,000 miles on the clock.

Chances are it will be much cheaper to get it fixed by a mobile aircon specialist, labour rates are usually much cheaper and part to I would guess.

At this time of year its surprising how handy it is at demisting damp misted windows.

However if using it to p/ex at a dealer dont bother fixing it.

More than likely on a TDi that the clutch has fallen off. Would require a new compressor and clutch, receiver dryer and regas.
IIRC that would cost a substantial amount of money which is unlikely to be recovered fully when selling.

And of course don't forget the classic "It only needs a re-gas".

Air con is taken for granted until it breaks and then it bites you square in the *** when it comes to forking out for repairs.

Thank god for company cars..........:D

lummox, correct i was told it was the clutch only, but the engineer was'nt sure...

Yup but you cant buy the clutch on their own now. They now come as a complete pre assembled unit as the clutches were still not being set up right and failing again and when you did just replace the clutch it usually wasnt long before the bearings in the compressor gave in due to the heat of the clutch slipping.
