Has Anyone Got A Towbar Fitted To Roomster?

Featured Replies

Ive been looking into having a towbar fitted to my Roomster, trouble is its causing me some concerns.

Firstly, cost! just short of £500

Ive seen bits and pieces around on the internet and instructions online for different bars that the reversing sensors have to be disabled as the towbar will probably set them off.

Thought about fitting one myself to save money but then theres concerns that the insurance company may moan because Im not a qualified person. I have fitted my own in the past but that doesnt make me qualified does it.

So what experiences have others had.

I had one fitted, a similar price to your quote, I also considered DIY till I realised you couldn't just splice the wiring in.

The reverse sensors show a picture of a trailer when you select reverse.

I had the smallest possible cutout in the rear bumper as I'd heard that the removable panel causes cracking of the paintwork when taking it in and out. I had 13 pin electrics fully integrated with the canbus wiring.

No problems so far (18 months)

. I asked the independent who fitted it to change the door locking to single click while he was in the system, it was no problem so I guess you could have other things reset if you wanted to.

Insurance company (SAGA)asked for sight of the receipt/invoice, but my next change of insurance (LV) accepted it without question.

PS make sure they give you back the cross beam/inner bumper/rear chassis, whatever they call it, so you have the option to remove the towbar if neccessary.

I've got the older 1.9 engined Roomster, but had a towbar fitted by a local outfit and the cost was £225.

that was a fixed flange with 13 pin socket.

Obviously that's too far from you (Theale Towbars) but worth a punt filling in the online form for a quote at least to compare prices and then find someone similarly priced up there.

Declared it on insurance as a modification but no additional loading as not a performance mod

I had one on my old roomster 1.9 PD TDi

great it was not a skoda part but a third party towbar fitted by the supplying dealer, no issues it did not have a frame around the cutout

I only had a 7 pin socket electrics

I'm not sure where you're based but I'm getting one fitted to my scout later this month for 325 (single electrics). With the scout having relatively poor spec I don't have to worry about parking sensors! Oh, in Perth, Scotland.

A bit further south than Perth Im afraid.

Think one of the big costs is dedicated wiring kit.
